THE ROLE
A
Service Technician plays a key rolein ensuring equipment reliability and performance for our customers by diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy municipal and contractor equipment, including sewer combination cleaner trucks, hydro excavators, street sweepers, multi-purpose tractors, and leaf maintenance equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical defects with heavy equipment fleet and other related products within the BEC portfolio
- Disassemble, repair and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, electrical and hydraulic systems, and powertrains
- Proficient at rebuilding, adjusting, reinstalling and aligning components and assemblies
- Extensive knowledge of machine shop tools and knowledge of safe machine shop practices
- Ability to apply appropriate welding and fabrication techniques when required
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Complete repairs in a timely and effective manner, communicating effectively with Service Team Lead and Parts team to ensure optimal efficiency
- Prepare detailed repair estimates, including labor and parts costs, to assist customers and internal teams with service planning
- Communicate effectively, providing updates on repairs, timelines and preventative maintenance recommendations
- Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately
- May interact and communicate estimate and project status with customers
- Ability to assist with mechanical issues in the field as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Other duties as assigned
- Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical issues in heavy equipment
- Ability to interpret and work from technical manuals, schematics and diagrams
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members and customers effectively
- Effective time management and organization skill
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in diesel repair preferred
- Mechanical experience in automotive, heavy equipment or similar repair fields
