Controller - Americas

We are seeking an experienced and driven Controller to join our growing logistics and freight forwarding business. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with deep knowledge of accounting in the logistics and international freight forwarding industry, strong IFRS reporting experience, and hands-on expertise in financial operations.

This position will initially require significant hands-on work, including clean-up of existing accounts, reconciliations, and process improvements. Over time, the role will evolve into a more strategic leadership position, overseeing a strong accounting team and ensuring efficient financial operations.

Key Responsibilities And Tasks

- Lead accounting clean-up activities, including reconciliations, corrections, and establishing proper accounting processes.

- Oversee all accounting and finance operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, revenue recognition, and month-end/year-end close.

- Ensure compliance with IFRS standards and local statutory requirements.

- Manage preparation of financial statements, management reports, and analysis to support decision-making.

- Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights into logistics and freight forwarding activities.

- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.

- Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities as required.

- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance function.

- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.

- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff as the function matures.

- Collaborate with global finance teams to ensure consistency and alignment with company policies.

Qualifications And Competencies

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting leadership role.

- Strong background in freight forwarding, logistics, or transportation accounting is required.

- In-depth knowledge of IFRS and financial compliance.

- SAP experience strongly preferred; other ERP systems also considered.

- Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on accounting work (clean-up, reconciliations, process fixes) while transitioning to leadership responsibilities.

- Proven ability to operate as a self-starter with strong initiative and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong leadership skills with a collaborative approach.
