Position Overview: The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with internal controls, analyzing production costs, and supporting strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing finance and cost accounting, with specific experience in heavy industry, metallurgy, or foundry operations. This role has broad visibility to plant leadership and cross-functional influence.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist Senior Cost Analyst with monitoring and analysis of manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead, and provide variance analysis and recommendations.
- Assist and support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain the integrity of financial systems, including general ledger, fixed asset records, and inventory valuation.
- Assist in the development of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning processes.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations.
- Collaborate with operations and production departments to improve cost efficiency and financial performance.
- Support audits, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of required documentation.
- Participates in ERP system upgrade and implementation.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff as assigned.
- Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) performance and AR collection effectiveness.
- Contribution to cost reduction initiatives and process improvements.
- Successful cross-functional collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred but not required).
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing or industrial setting (foundry/metallurgy experience strongly preferred).- Prior accounting/finance compliance experience in Federal Acquisition Regulations preferred but not required.
- Hands-on involvement in cost accounting, AR oversight, inventory analysis, and variance reporting.
- Proficiency in large organization ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Proven track record supporting financial audits and month/year-end close procedures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Supervisory or leadership experience required, including mentoring accounting staff.
- Experience working cross-functionally with operations, engineering, sales, or plant management teams.
- Office setting within a foundry facility; occasional visits to production areas required
- Exposure to industrial equipment and processes; appropriate PPE provided as needed.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement initiatives.Base Salary Range: $73,000 - $92,000 + annual bonus Location: Fully Onsite - Tacoma, WA
