The Special Projects Group is a team of multidisciplinary engineers within Dominion Engineering, Inc., an Allied Power company, that takes on first-of-a-kind and innovative projects for nuclear power customers. Computational Engineers within the group develop and apply computational models, simulations, and data analysis to solve complex physical problems - informing the design of first-of-a-kind products, supporting critical technical decisions for operating nuclear plants, and shaping the design of new nuclear builds.
Project assignments will be coordinated between individual Project Coordinators and the Software Development Lead to consider prioritization of strategic initiatives across the company, the needs of specific projects, and staff development goals.

Reports to: Software Development Lead – Special Projects Group

1. Create computational models and simulations for engineering analysis.
2. Analyze test data and experimental results using custom code.
4. Troubleshoot across domains: software, hardware, and mathematical models.
5. Develop tools to improve the quality and efficiency of analysis workflows.
6. Articulate technical ideas and abstract concepts with clear written and verbal communication.
Subject to company and project needs, the Computational Engineer may be called on to perform other functions suited to his/her level of experience and expertise, including but not limited to:
1. Prepare client-facing technical deliverables (calculations, reports, presentations) with minimal oversight.
2. Serve as technical lead on client projects - owning the technical approach, timeline, and deliverable quality.
3. Lead technical discussions and present findings directly to clients.
2. Development and maintenance of client-facing software products and/or internal software tools
3. Experience with consulting or client-facing technical work
4. Experience with Git and other software development tools
5. FEA experience (ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, or similar) for thermal and/or structural analysis
6. Experience with use and implementation of Artificial Intelligence and/or Machine Learning tools preferred but not required
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work at a desk/computer. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to navigate industrial environments while wearing PPE, including climbing over and around obstacles, and up and down stairs or ladders. The employee must occasionally work at heights (up to approximately 30 feet above the floor) without experiencing vertigo. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Science, or related field and a minimum 3 years of engineering experience
2. Custom software development for data analysis, simulation, and automation
3. Experience validating models or simulations against experimental data
