Burlington City Arts Teaching Artist

General Purpose

Burlington City Arts is seeking dynamic, professional and experienced Teaching Artists with expertise in studio arts to teach youth art camps and classes (Ages 6-17), and potential consideration for adult classes. Notable considerations for candidates with experience in arts integration and expertise in multiple disciplines including ceramics (handbuilding and/or wheel), drawing and painting, mixed media craft, printmaking (linocut and/or silkscreen) photography, and craft and fine metal jewelry.

To be considered, candidates must be available, on-site, Monday-Friday for Summer Camp programming which runs June 15 through August 14 (with a break June 29 through July 5). Individual schedules and shift assignments to be determined within the programming hours of 7:30am-3:30pm

Essential Job Functions

Teaching Artists will work in cooperation with BCA Staff to facilitate adult and/or youth group classes and camps at the BCA Studios at 405 Pine Street, Burlington and at off-site residency sites including schools and community organizations. Teaching Artists must be able to create quality lesson plans, create supply lists within budgetary restrictions and provide an outstanding arts experience for customers. Teaching Artists are responsible for the set up and cleanup of their studio spaces before and after classes as well as attendance and some student paperwork.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.

- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.

- Must be 18 years or older.

- Must pass a criminal background check.

- Bachelor's Degree in Arts Education or Fine Arts preferred.

- At least one year of teaching experience with adults and/or youth.

- Customer Service experience preferred.

- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.

- Must demonstrate ability to professionally represent the City of Burlington and the City Arts Department in all dealings with community members.

- Must be able to lift tables, chairs, easels, and other studio equipment and supplies.

- Must have a desire to work with students and must demonstrate ability to communicate in a clear and helpful manner with BCA staff, teachers, and parents.

- Must demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, punctuality and dependability.

- Cooperative attitude and team-player attitude.

- Ability to work independently under general supervision.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to a changing schedule.
