About This Job

Valta Energy LLC, is a full-suite solar developer and independent power producer that finances, acquires, develops, owns, and operates distributed generation solar energy projects. Founded in 2009, Valta has developed over 100MW of solar + storage assets across the US, with a focus in the Northeast US and California.


Job Purpose

The Vice President of Business Development will lead and expand Valta Energy’s commercial growth strategy in the solar and renewable energy sector. This role is responsible for overseeing a team of sales and marketing business development professionals, driving sales performance, and cultivating strategic partnerships to accelerate revenue growth. The VP will establish clear performance goals, mentor and develop team members, and ensure alignment with the company’s mission to deliver innovative renewable energy solutions. This role is remote to candidates in Southern California as travel is required to meet with local clients and team members in the Ontario office.


Responsibilities

- Leadership & Team Development

- Oversee and manage the Business Development team, which currently includes Marketing and Origination, setting clear performance expectations and performance score cards.

- As an active member of the senior leadership team, work closely with peers to align business development initiatives with corporate objectives.

- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to foster a high-performing team culture.

- Conduct performance reviews and implement improvement plans where necessary.

- Sales & Growth Strategy

- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and sales strategies to expand market share in commercial solar and renewable energy.

- Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities across C&I and community solar markets.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders.

- Market Development & Partnerships

- Lead negotiations for major contracts, joint ventures, and strategic alliances.

- Lead marketing initiatives, initially utilizing a third-party consultant. Develop and implement a long-term marketing plan.

- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform business strategy.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Partner with Finance, Legal, and Operations to ensure business deals are structured effectively, meet corporate financial goals, and risks are managed.

- Performance Management

- Establish and implement metrics to track the success of various marketing initiatives.

- Assume responsibility of metrics to track sales pipeline, conversion rates, and revenue growth.

- Report regularly to the CEO on progress against business development goals.

- Drive accountability across the team to meet and exceed targets.


Minimum Qualifications

- Prior experience in executive leadership roles with responsibility for team development and performance management.

- Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.

- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable growth plans.

- Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and a results-driven mindset.

- 10+ years of B2B sales experience in renewable energy, commercial real estate, or related industries

- Demonstrated track record of successfully closing complex sales with multiple stakeholders

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for clients

- Bachelor's degree required, ideally in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field

- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits

- Proficiency in Windows environment, MS Office, Outlook, Excel; technically savvy


Desired/Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in solar C&I, utility-scale, or community energy projects.

- Background in structuring financing arrangements for renewable energy projects.

- Experience developing third-party owned C&I renewable energy projects

- Experience with commercial real estate ownership structures and decision processes

- Passionate about renewable energy and sustainability.

- Strong understanding of commercial solar PV systems, energy storage solutions, and/or EV charging infrastructure (or ability to quickly learn technical concepts)

- Consultative sales approach that positions the client as the hero and you as their trusted guide

- Outstanding presentation and negotiation abilities

- Basic understanding of financial concepts related to solar projects (ROI, tax incentives, depreciation)
