Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Vice President, Distributed Clean Energy (DCE) Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, reactive maintenance, and preventive maintenance of a portfolio of behind the meter and front of the meter assets. The portfolio is nationwide and is compriosed of approximately 130 sites of under 20 MW per site, both on customer sites and company sites. The portfolio is predominantly solar but also has significant wind and battery storage assets. This role combines leadership, operational management, and budget management for the portfolio and a ten-person operating team plus third-party service providers. The Vice President will promote a safety-first and engaging culture, deliver continuously improving operating results, implement best practices, and work across teams to drive improvement initiatives.
Role Responsibilities:
•Ensure the highest level of health and safety practices for the team and at all facilities under his/her jurisdiction
•Provide leadership necessary to develop a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and cost optimization
•Ongoing management of solar, wind, and battery storage assets including maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting activities, to ensure operational availability, achieve production optimization, and identify opportunities to improve operations and maintenance performance
•Leverage data analytics, SCADA systems, and predictive maintenance tools to enhance performance
•Develop and manage operational budgets, forecasts, and capital expenditures
•Promote productivity and teamwork with open communication, timely decision making, and use of leadership skills to set high standards of performance, while coaching ang guiding individuals on the team to achieve high levels of performance
•Management of third-party service provides including contract negotiations, purchase orders, and payment
•Interface with customers, landowners, local and state authorities, and the general public as required
•Assist Senior VP in the development, analysis, planning and execution of various special projects and initiatives ( ie. new operational strategies, cost reduction initiatives, etc.); provide reports to Senior VP
Job Requirements and Experiences:
•Bacehlor’s in Engineering or similar; Master of Business Administration or Enginering or a plus
•Minimum 10 years overall experience in electric generation operations, with minimum 5 years in solar or wind generation; experience with battery storage systems a plus
•Minimum 5 years of experience in a direct supervision and leadership role
•Extensive knowledge of power generation systems, installation techniques, troubleshooting practices, and electrical systems
•Good working knowledge of budgeting, work scheduling, and cost management tools and processe
•Proven ability to provide training, feedback, performance management, and leadership to field employees
•Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines as well as pivot as priorities shift
•Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
•Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
•Experience with SCADA systems; familiarity with SAP a plus
•Initiative – Must be self starting and able to make decisions and take necessary actions without specific direction; analyzes issues and takes appropriate risks to achieve results, when necessary; motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
•Leadership Skills – Able to guide the DCE Operations teams to maintain focus toward accomplishing objectives; must delegate assignments and motivate organization to complete them in an efficient and effective manner
•Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables across a distributed workforce
•Interpersonal Skills – Proven record of dealing and interacting with both management and technical teams; skilled in human relations, conflict resolution and facilitation in a team environment; proven ability to empathize, build relationships, and effectively communicate with people from a diverse set of backgrounds
•Technical/Functional Knowledge – Strong knowledge and understanding of operations and maintenance of renewable energy and battery storage systems
•Detail-oriented, strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of energy business concepts
•Flexibility – Able to make the necessary adjustments to respond to changing conditions
•Resource Management – Make effective use of available resources to achieve operating goals and objectives
•Strong knowledge of OSHA and other safety standards and practices; knowledge of environmental policies and procedures as they relate to renewable energy generation
•Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as required
•This position is an office-based role with some travel, visits to other RWECE offices and to field operating locations
•RWECE DCE offers a hybrid work schedule
Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $216,000 - $324,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
