The Health and Safety Administrator is responsible for supporting the implementation and management of health and safety programs across the company’s projects. The role involves ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, maintaining records, and providing essential training support. This role plays a critical part in promoting a safe working environment through proactive health and safety administration and coordination.
The A-1 Construction Companies are a wholly owned subsidiary of MasTec, Inc (MTZ), a fortune 500 publicly traded infrastructure construction company. The largest of these entities are A1 Excavating and Stout Excavating Group. A1 Excavating is a Wisconsin based Underground Utility Contractor specializing in Excavating, Site Clearing and Underground Utilities. With over 40 years of experience in the WI, MN region, A1 is a top competitor for all water main, sanitary and storm Sewer work in the region. Stout Excavating Group (SEG) is a progressive contractor that performs mining and civil construction services in multiple states across the United States.
SEG companies are currently seeking Health and Safety Administrator to become valuable members of our expanding team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees by providing exceptional safety and health guidance. Additionally, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining safety programs both within our organization and with external partners. Your efforts will greatly contribute to fostering a positive and proactive behavior-based safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of all individuals involved.
· Assist in the development, implementation, and review of health and safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
· Maintain up-to-date records of safety inspections, audits, and incident reports.
· Track compliance with safety regulations, ensuring all site operations meet local, state, and federal requirements.
· Coordinate and document safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
· Assist in preparing safety documentation for client or regulatory audits.
· Ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is available, distributed, and used correctly by all employees and contractors.
· Support and deliver health and safety training programs, including general site safety, hazard communication, MSHA / OSHA, and specialized training for machinery or hazardous materials.
· Schedule and organize mandatory training sessions, ensuring all employees receive necessary certifications.
· Maintain training records and ensure timely refresher courses are provided when required.
· Collaborate with external training providers or in-house experts to develop and update training materials in line with current safety regulations.
· Track employee compliance with safety training requirements and provide reports to the Health and Safety Manager.
· Assist in conducting new employee safety orientations and site-specific training.
· Assist in investigating workplace accidents, near-misses, and safety incidents, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting.
· Support the preparation of incident investigation reports, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
· Monitor follow-up actions to ensure lessons learned are communicated and implemented throughout the organization.
· Monitor and report on potential safety hazards on construction sites, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
· Assist in preparing and distributing safety bulletins, updates, and alerts.
· Help develop and maintain the company’s safety culture through ongoing support and communication with staff.
· Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred but not required.
· Previous experience in health and safety administration, preferably in a construction or industrial environment.
· Knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, MSHA).
· Familiarity with training coordination and management, including record-keeping and reporting.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including site workers, management, and external bodies.
· Problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
· Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
· Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong focus on health and safety.
