The SMW team leader is a working lead who serves as the primary resource and contact for their area of expertise. This role is vital to the continued success of SMW and requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and proactive problem‑solving skills. The responsibilities outlined reflect essential skills necessary for effective team leadership and successful operations.
- Serve as the first point of problem solving with the ability to determine appropriate involvement from others.
- Champion creative solutions using both formal and informal problem‑solving strategies.
- Promote a solutions‑oriented mindset by transforming obstacles into actionable steps toward success.
- Identify and assess upcoming risks and gaps to ensure safe and effective production.
- Monitor, maintain, and present productivity and utilization metrics.
- Understand and manage daily production schedules (DPS).
- Communicate clear, consistent information across all levels of the organization, including work assignments, productivity presentations, Tier I–III meetings, Kaizen/improvement reports, and formal problem‑solving meetings.
- Provide meaningful technical guidance to operators based on skill and knowledge.
- Perform and/or lead risk assessments using SMW's 'First Things First' process before any non‑standard work.
- Identify opportunities to improve departmental efficiency and cost performance.
- Actively participate in Behavior Based Safety (BBS) and Behavior Based Quality (BBQ) programs as a daily observer and champion.
- Minimum one year of permanent employment with MPSA‑SMW.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis and must not require employer immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Proven record of stable and sustainable performance.
- Familiarity with product flow, component and assembly drawings/blueprints, and bill of materials.
- Employees with open disciplinary actions are ineligible.
- Basic computer skills, including SAP (work orders, router management, BOM/inventory), MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel), and area‑specific software such as FANUC controls and PLC/robot systems.
- Ability to participate in advanced training, including 8‑Step Problem Solving, BBS/BBQ, Conflict Resolution, Lean/6S, Leadership, Human Performance, and other courses as required.
