Central San is an award-winning special district of the State of California that provides wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal services; recycled water production and distribution; and household hazardous waste collection. We are currently hiring for 3- to 4-month summer positions beginning in May/June 2026 and finishing August/September 2026. These assignments provide an opportunity for students to gain work experience in a wastewater utility and require the student to be onsite at the Martinez plant full-time, Monday through Friday. This position will assist the Development Services team with various administrative tasks, may interact with contractors and the public, and may need to work with construction drawings and system maps. Attention to detail and strong computer skills are required. Students should be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, understand basic mathematics, chemistry, and engineering concepts, and be able to organize work assignments and write clear, concise reports and memoranda. Students with strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in teams are preferred. Candidates should have an interest in environmental, civil, chemical, mechanical, or related engineering majors.
This position with the Laboratory Group requires at least two semesters of college laboratory experience in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related field. Major duties include chemical inventory, organization of laboratory equipment, field sampling, routine gravimetric and wet chemistry analyses of water, wastewater, and its byproducts. Junior or senior standing is highly desirable.
Asset Management & Geographic Information System (GIS)
This position will assist the Asset Management/GIS Group with GIS and Asset Management projects. Duties may include editing and maintaining GIS datasets, reading and extracting data from record drawings, performing field work, creating and updating various maps, publishing map services, and supporting the asset management system. Candidates should have completed or be enrolled in a GIS class, or have experience with Esri ArcMap and/or ArcGIS Pro. An interest in GIS and/or majoring in GIS, Geography, or geospatial science is preferred.
This summer position is for engineering majors seeking work experience in the wastewater industry. This position will assist the Planning group with recycled water, collection system, and treatment plant tasks. Candidates should have an interest in environmental, civil, mechanical, chemical, or related engineering degree programs. Attention to detail and strong computer skills are required.
