Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) provides reliable, cost-effective, environmentally balanced, wholesale electric services to our 11-member distribution cooperatives in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Our core business is generating, purchasing and delivering electricity to our members. ODEC is a not-for-profit generation and transmission cooperative that operates for the benefit of our members, who are our owners. Our home office is located in Glen Allen, Virginia.
First year law student to perform duties commensurate with legal experience and education under close supervision of the ODEC legal team. Assignments serve to offer practical experience and exposure to legal issues in the energy industry and the electric cooperative environment. This summer associate opportunity is performed in ODEC’s Glen Allen, Virginia home office.
- Review hard-copy documents in support of ODEC’s Information Governance initiative.
- Perform legal research on contract, regulatory, and governance issues relevant to ODEC.
- Attend team, project, and/or department meetings, as available, to learn more about ODEC’s structure and functions.
- Support ODEC’s legal team on contract review and other projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as visiting generation facilities and observing PJM and FERC proceedings.
- Successfully completed one year of an accredited law school in Spring 2026
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and legal software such as Westlaw
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels
- Ability to effectively research and analyze legal issues
- Organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Electric utility and cooperative knowledge and experience preferred
Education: Successfully completed one year of an accredited law school in Spring 2026.
Travel details: Occasional day and overnight travel required in this position.
- Daily work in an office environment
- Hand-eye coordination to use a keyboard and monitor frequently and visually view various hard copy and electronic documents
- Interact effectively with others through verbal communication, video, email and text
- Conduct occasional safe travel via automobile which may include overnight travel
- The summer associate opportunity runs approximately from May 11 through July 31, 2026
- Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Non-Exempt (hourly) position
We offer a paid summer associate/internship position. No other benefits are available for this position. Individual will be responsible for housing and daily transportation to the ODEC home office during the duration of the position.
