Student, Mineral Core Research Facility Support – On Site
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the Core Research Centre (CRC) & Mineral Core Research Facility (MCRF) Operations team in Edmonton. In this role, you will manage and preserve geological materials by organizing Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC) for long-term storage, updating inventory, and documenting processes. You will also support audits of geological samples and assist AGS staff in preparing materials for analysis.
This position offers hands-on experience in geoscience operations and inventory systems, allowing you to develop practical skills highly valued in the industry. - Organize Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC) material for long-term storage by consolidating fractions, updating inventory, and documenting processes.
- Support audits of geological materials (e.g., core, grab samples, till samples, thin sections) by providing insight and context using geoscience knowledge.
- Assist AGS staff with preparation of geological samples for analysis, including trimming samples for geochemistry and cutting billets for thin section preparation.
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
- Comfortable performing physical tasks, including lifting and organizing core boxes and sample materials.
- Intermediate computer skills for documentation and inventory updates.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and SharePoint is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing samples and inventory.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution, including enrollment in the semester following the work term or enrollment in a registered co-op program, will be a condition of hire.

- All applicants must have physical ability to conduct manual tasks, including handling materials, shipping and receiving, and using tools and equipment. Required physical demands: e.g.,) must be able to lift between 20-70 lbs.
- A pre-placement medical and a fully valid Class 5 driver’s license, along with a positive driving record, are required.
