Slitter Setup / Helper

Grand Steel is seeking an experienced Slitter Setup / Helper to join our production team. This role is responsible for setting up tooling on our slitter line according to specifications outlined on work orders. Primary setup responsibilities include slitter arbor setup, tension stand setup, and recoiler overarm setup.

The Slitter Setup / Helper plays a critical role in keeping production running efficiently. In addition to tooling setup, this position assists the Slitter Operator with day-to-day machine operations, including handling scrap, loading and unloading coils, and banding slit coils at the completion of each order.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and time-management skills, as well as a high level of attention to detail. Slitter tooling setup is a precise process, and accuracy is essential to maintaining quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

- Set up slitter tooling on the slitter line according to work order specifications

- Perform slitter arbor, tension stand, and recoiler overarm setups

- Inspect slitting knives and tooling for edge quality, wear, or damage

- Assist the Slitter Operator with machine operation and production tasks

- Load and unload steel coils and handle scrap material

- Band slit coils at the completion of jobs

- Troubleshoot minor issues and report concerns to the operator or management

- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Requirements

- Proven experience with slitter setup; at least 2 years preferred but not required

- Familiarity with the steel industry, slitting machinery, and slitter tooling

- Knowledge of slitting knives and ability to identify edge quality issues or tooling damage

- Ability to troubleshoot minor issues and communicate effectively with operators and leadership

- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure and micrometer

- Strong communication and teamwork skills

- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening

- Reliable transportation to and from work

Pay: From $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
