Located in Topeka, KS, this position is responsible for performing material failure analyses and material evaluations on pipeline materials and equipment. This includes applying math, science, and engineering principles to solve materials-related problems, conducting destructive and non-destructive tests, and effectively communicating results. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mechanical aptitude, give high attention to detail, communicate effectively, be driven to continuously learn relevant technical subjects, and collaborate as a team member. Individuals with education related to materials or mechanical engineering technology would be well suited for this position. This posting is scheduled to close on May 8th.
Performs standard testing processes on a variety of equipment and records and analyzes results to determine corrective actions and recommendations for new technologies.
Conduct material-tool defect/failure investigations with corrective action closures.
Build test fixtures which replicate various field conditions involving defective and/or failed tools/materials.
Generate lab data, interpret results, and initiate resolution actions for all submitted items: repairs, replacement, quarantines, formal investigations, field training, alerts, and bulletins.
Conduct the appraisal-approval process of new technologies and products to determine their performance, potentials, and benefits for company-wide use.
Utilize various computer multimedia workstation software for generation of graphics, industrial photography, videos, editing/narration/annotating in preparing reports and presentations for management, field personnel, and others.
Obtain, coordinate, and consider specimen gathering, environmental/geological facts, terrain conditions, structural features, and provide thorough analysis and interpretation for the Stray Gas Program.
Perform maintenance, repair, and calibration on all required lab equipment, tools, and instruments.
Maintain inventory of tooling and lab supplies for construction of tests fixtures and materials.
Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum H.S. Diploma
Experience in the use, maintenance, and repair of tools and equipment applicable to position including but not limited to:
- Chromatograph
- PH meter
- Pipeline installation equipment
- Tensile machine
- Pressure and flow test equipment
- Environmental chambers
- Multimeter
- Pipeline instrumentation
Demonstrated ability utilizing decimals and percentages and algebraic formulas.
Demonstrated ability to explore company field support issues.
Working knowledge of safety practices related to high pressure products and hazardous materials.
Working knowledge and/or training related to word processing and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Experience reading, interpreting, and/or preparing written information including but not limited to:
- Test data results and recommendations
- Testing methods and procedures
- Industry Standards
- Technical bulletins – To monitor updates, notifications, of system material changes/issues
Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.
Minimum Applicable driver's license.
Lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds 2-3 times a week; up to 60 pounds 3-4 times a month.
Stationary/standing for extended periods.
Able to operate tools and equipment required.
Communicate and/or exchange information and instructions; conduct oral presentations and/or meetings.
Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
