GFL Environmental Services is focused on reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, and maximizing value from industrial waste with customers in a broad range of industry sectors. At the North Vancouver Refinery, we specialize specifically in oil recycling.
As a Laboratory Technician, you will perform daily analyses of samples received in the lab, verifying that all results meet established specifications and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality. You will be accountable for providing safe, efficient, and effective testing in support of the facility re-refining activity.
This is a full-time, permanent position based at our North Vancouver Oil Refinery. The regular work schedule consists of 8-hour shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Sunday through Friday. There are two shift schedules: Sunday to Thursday or Monday to Friday. Candidates must be willing and able to work either shift, as assignments are determined by operational needs.
- Provides chemical and physical QA/QC analysis in support of the North Vancouver facility operations.
- Ensure that incoming samples are received, processed accurately, completed in a timely manner and archived.
- Responsible for reporting concerns about samples, analytical results and equipment problems to the Operations Supervisor.
- Assists in the development and implementation of QA/QC policies and procedures.
- Maintains laboratory housekeeping standards in accordance with the Laboratory Manual and industry accepted laboratory practices.
- Performs routine instrument preventative maintenance.
- Ordering, tracking and maintaining inventory of day-to-day laboratory supplies as required.
- Provides technical support on assigned projects.
- Provides insight into and interpretation of analytical results.
- Familiar with internal and external industry specifications that support the business.
- Ensure that results, reports and product release forms (including certificates of analysis) are completed, recorded and appropriately reported/distributed in a timely, efficient and professional manner.
- Participates in support of customer service initiatives.
- Maintains a good general knowledge of the process, the products and the customers.
- Comply with Corporate and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Understands and uses the Workplace Hazardous Material Information System.
- Maintains the Laboratory S.D.S. database.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in Chemistry or a related field.
- 1 to 2 years’ experience in a laboratory setting would be seen as an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs; experience with Google Suite programs is an asset.
- Solid written communication skills to complete the required paperwork.
- Possess effective verbal communication skills to interact with Company staff, contractors, and customers.
- Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and think proactively.
- Work without direct supervision with only assistance from fellow team members and general operating and goal guidelines.
- Excellent customer service skills, with strong work ethic and positive attitude to represent the GFL brand effectively and favorably.
- Open to working various shifts, including weekends and extended hours to meet client needs.
