Position Highlights

BC Hydro is looking for an experienced Electrical Site Engineer to work on our construction projects and make sure that

construction and commissioning are done right. If you are a self-starter who enjoys working in the field on large and

complex construction projects and working on new BC Hydro stations, then we invite you to join the Site Engineering team.

This unique opportunity is to support the upcoming capital construction program on the North Coast. Over the next decade

we have capital work planned to build out new transmission infrastructure and provide clean, renewable, energy to the

BC Hydro project. You’ll bring your technical expertise to work closely with other Construction, Engineering, Equipment

Testing and Commissioning, and Maintenance teams.

What you'll do

- At the heart of the construction and commissioning, you use your technical expertise in electrical equipment, protection

and control (P&C) design, construction and testing to get answers to complex technical queries and problems by bringing

design engineers and contractors together to keep construction and commissioning on track.

- Develop and oversee all technical aspects of field engineering for construction and commissioning of new electrical and

P&C equipment. This includes, but is not limited to switchgear, reactive equipment installation including power transformers,

electrical equipment protection, generator/turbine control and monitoring, communication networks, and instrumentation

systems.

- Construction oversight on major projects, working with our contractors to ensure proper coordination and staging of

construction and commissioning activities. You are involved in reviewing constructability, development of plans, schedules,

procedures, and construction/commissioning methods to assure conformance.

- Perform first-level quality assurance to confirm that the execution of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications,

drawings, and industry standards – the work adheres to accepted engineering practice.

- Ensure that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures

and contract requirements. You do the field review as POR’s delegate, or you coordinate witness and hold points for critical

components and document these activities in field review records.

- Maintain strong relationships and liaise with different discipline design engineering staff, both to conduct field review and

to organize timely resolution of technical issues. You sort out non-compliance issues in the field by bringing design and

construction people together.

- Collaborate with Construction Management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect

the environment or the safety or health of employees.

- Organizes the accumulation of assigned discipline technical information (redlined construction drawings, RFIs, non-

conformance reports). Then synthesize this into the construction report telling the construction story.

- You then take the construction over to commissioning – and develop the commissioning plans to systematically bring

electrical systems on-line and prove out their function. You coordinate the test program and assure that the outages, people

and documentation are in place to effectively execute on the test program. This may include developing, managing, outage

staging plans.

- You share what you know and encourage the professional development of engineers and technical staff. You coach/

mentor and provide instruction, advice, and technical guidance to others.

What you bring
