The Senior Electrical Engineer leads the design, documentation, and validation of complex electrical power systems supporting microgrids, distributed generation, and scalable power plants. This role reports directly to the Director of Electrical Engineering and supports the execution of electrical engineering standards, system designs, and construction deliverables across power distribution, microgrid, and modular generation projects.
In this role, you independently execute engineering work, author technical specifications, and ensure construction documents accurately reflect engineering intent while bridging engineering analysis, construction execution, and commissioning activities.
- Lead electrical system design for generators, power distribution equipment, and associated control systems.
- Develop and review construction drawing packages, including:
- - Cable tray plans and routing
- Grounding plans and calculations
- Site plans and equipment layouts
- Cable schedules, cable sizing, and conduit schedules
- Communication, controls, and network diagrams
- Define generator control architectures and interconnection wiring between generators, switchboards, switchgear, transformers, and ATS.
- Author and maintain technical specifications, engineering standards, and design criteria.
- Perform and review power system studies as applicable (load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash).
- Review vendor designs, submittals, and third-party engineering deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance to Electrical Engineers and Designers.
- Support FAT, commissioning, and field troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with utilities and support interconnection applications.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, UL 2200, IEEE, and project requirements.
- Participate in technical risk reviews and safety leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7–10+ years of experience in power systems engineering or industrial electrical design.- Demonstrated experience with:
- - Generator control systems
- Power distribution interconnections
- Construction drawing development
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Ability to independently execute and review engineering designs.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with ETAP or SKM Power Tools.
- Experience writing and owning electrical specifications and engineering standards.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in TX, NM, WY, or CO, or actively working toward licensure.
- Experience supporting or leading commissioning and startup.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection processes.
- You are hands-on, practical, and understand how designs translate to the field.
- You take pride in producing clean, accurate, and buildable drawings.
- You work well within a structured engineering organization while being adaptable in fast-paced project environments.
- You approach problems methodically and communicate clearly with engineers, electricians, and project teams.
