Are you a seasoned professional with a passion for innovation in electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering? At Juno Engineering Canada, we empower our team to drive sustainable progress across power generation, renewable energy, and advanced industrial projects. With over 40 years of engineering excellence, we foster a collaborative, forward-thinking culture where your expertise in detailed electrical design and project management will shape the future of energy.
We are seeking a full-time, permanent Senior Electrical Engineer
with 10 to 20 years of industry experience. This role is ideal for an individual who has led complex industrial projects—ranging from water treatment, power generation, renewable and conventional oil & gas and mining to commercial facilities—and who is eager to bring technical depth and leadership to our dynamic team.
Working under the direction of the Project Manager, you will:
- Independently manage and execute multi-disciplinary engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and technical excellence.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive electrical design packages including detailed drawings, calculations, data sheets, specifications, and bills of materials.
- Oversee the development of wiring diagrams, schematics, plans and schedules (including 4160 VAC, 480 VAC, and 120/208 VAC systems) and ensure compliance with established codes and standards.
- Analyze design alternatives at the FEED stage to recommend robust, cost-efficient solutions.
- Conduct advanced electrical studies such as hazardous area classifications, fugitive emissions assessments, arc flash hazard analysis, short circuit, and protection coordination studies.
- Prepare and review electrical heat trace isometrics and cable schedules, using specialized software when applicable.
- Develop technical reports, project design criteria, and scopes of work for complex industrial and commercial projects.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and third-party consultants to define project scopes, manage design changes, and ensure quality deliverables.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers and electrical designers, providing technical guidance and ensuring the accuracy of in-house engineering work.
- Coordinate capital projects, including developing cost estimates, project schedules, and AFE documentation.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and field personnel to resolve technical issues and support on-site installations.
Your success in this role will depend on your ability to:
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and professionally both in writing and verbally.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Adapt to varying project demands and perform effectively under pressure.
- Build collaborative, cross-functional relationships and lead by example.
- Leverage a diverse range of technical and industry knowledge in your decision-making process.
- Detailed electrical engineering and design for industrial facilities (power generation, water treatment, oil & gas, mining, pulp and paper, or commercial).
- Low Voltage systems including transformers, motors, lighting, heating, and VFD applications.
- Development of electrical drawings, data sheets, equipment specifications, and procurement of electrical components (e.g., switchgear, motor control centers, UPS systems).
- Conducting electrical studies such as hazardous area classification, fugitive emissions, arc flash hazard, short circuit, and protection coordination analyses.
- Preparing technical documentation, including design criteria, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, API, CSA, ISA) with the ability to interpret and apply them in real-world projects.
- Experience in medium voltage systems design and engineering, as well as performing power system studies (including arc flash analysis), is a plus, though not a requirement.
- Experience with heat trace design and calculations using specialized software.
- Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and ETAP Electrical Power System Analysis software.
- A track record of successfully managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams in challenging industrial environments.
- Experience:
8+ years of industrial experience, with a minimum of 3 years leading engineering teams in detailed design and project management.- Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (advanced degrees or additional certifications are an asset).
- Licensure:
Professional Engineering Licence in Canada and/or the US.
This position is based in Calgary, Alberta, with flexible work arrangements available. Applicants must be able to work full-time in Canada and be available for occasional multi-day travel.
