Founded and based in Richmond, BC, Canada, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL™ Subsurface Intelligence Platform™, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, AI-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.
By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.
We are a dynamic tech scale-up of nearly 70 employees (and growing!). We are a team that is entrepreneurial by nature and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer who will own the electrical architecture, design, verification, certification, and sustainment of ruggedized, safety critical electronics that operate in demanding mining and industrial environments.
You will report to the Director, Hardware and work in a team setting across hardware, firmware, systems, manufacturing, and field operations.
You will impact and drive Ideon’s objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:
- System ownership: Lead end-to-end electrical design for sensing and telemetry systems, including power architectures (AC/DC, DC/DC, battery systems), protections (surge, transient, OCP/OVP), grounding/bonding, and safety.
- Mixed signal design: Develop low noise analog frontends, sensor interfacing, highspeed digital, timing, and communications (Ethernet/RS485/CAN/industrial protocols).
- Compliance & certification: Plan and execute product compliance (CSA/UL/CE), electrical safety, and EMC/EMI per IEC/EN/CSA standards; collaborate with test labs; generate technical documentation and reports.
- Design for manufacture/service: Drive DFM/DFT with manufacturing partners; specify functional test requirements and fixtures; support NPI and sustaining engineering.
- Reliability & verification: Own bring up, characterization, HALT/HASS planning, environmental validation (shock/vibe/temperature/humidity/ingress), and failure analysis/FRACAS.
- Quality management: Apply documented checks and independent reviews aligned to EGBC practice requirements and our firm PPMP; mentor peers in good engineering and verification practices.
- Cross functional integration: Partner with firmware/software, geoscience, and field teams to ensure robust system behavior in lab and operational mine settings.
- Minimum viable complexity in service of reduced verification and validation (V&V) scope and fast time to market.
- Certified, field proven hardware that meets performance, safety, and reliability targets with clear verification evidence.
- Continuous V&V in collaboration with test engineer to detect faults and edge cases early in the PCB design process.
- Designs and processes that measurably reduce power consumption, noise, cost, and build time while increasing yield and serviceability.
- Predictable delivery through well managed requirements, risks, and design reviews—fewer late changes, faster issue resolution.
- Elevated team capability via mentorship, reusable libraries, checklists, and templates tied to our PPMP.
Priorities in the first few months will include:
- Assess current electrical architecture; define a certification and EMC test plan (incl. pre‑scan) for upcoming releases.
- Lead design updates on one key board/assembly (schematics, simulations, layout guidance, test plan, and verification matrix).
- Stand up/refresh lab infrastructure and scripted test automation for regression and environmental testing.
- Align design and review practices with EGBC quality‑management expectations and our Professional Practice Management Plan (roles, documented checks, independent reviews).*Title is dependent on the new employee's registration and accreditation status with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
Must-haves – You’ll need the following to move forward in the hiring process (and be successful in the role):
- 8+ years of progressive electrical design experience for industrial/mission critical products (preferably ruggedized or safety critical).
- Bachelor’s (BASc/BEng) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent training/experience; P.Eng. in a Canadian province (or EIT actively pursuing licensure).
- Direct, hands on experience shipping mixed signal boards and power systems (12–60 VDC; mains interfaces via certified supplies), including EMC compliant designs and lab bring-up using oscilloscopes, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and environmental chambers.
- Proficiency in Altium Designer (or equivalent ECAD), SPICE/simulation, requirements and verification documentation, and collaboration tools.
- Well developed communication skills in English; able to be assertive and respectful in design reviews and cross functional forums.
- Legally able and currently documented to work full time in Canada.
We also look for the following from
all new Ideon team members

- Solid teamwork skills; you’re accountable to yourself and your team and will jump in to help where you can.
- Creative solutioning mindset with great problem-solving skills.
- Insatiable curiosity paired with a drive to deliver.
- Able to work well under pressure and to meet committed deadlines.
- Great interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders.
- Able to contribute something “extra” to our culture beyond the work that you do, like wowing people with your home-baked goods, sharing improv comedy skills, or organizing sports games.
