We are seeking a
Senior Civil Technologistto join our substation engineering team. Reporting to the Civil Engineering Specialist, you will apply advanced design technologies and geospatial data to develop effective substation design solutions. This role blends modern digital tools with core civil engineering principles to deliver practical, constructible designs and provide responsive support to field operations.
Key Elements Of This Role Include
- Analyze geospatial data including boundary surveys, LiDAR point cloud data and topographic mapping
- Create 3D terrain models used for detailed site development design using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and other substation design tools
- Prepare substation layout drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation)
- Assist with the design of access roads, ditching, site drainage and overall site development requirements
- Ensure designs comply with municipal requirements, provincial and environmental regulations
- Prepare detailed civil design packages in accordance with engineering specifications and internal standards
- Review geotechnical reports and coordinate with engineering consultants on foundation/site development recommendations
- Develop structural steel and foundation details following industry standards and utility specifications
- Support multi-disciplinary teams including substation, transmission and operations groups
- Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions and develop practical solutions for equipment modifications

- Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma from recognized institution
- Full CET membership with TechNova or eligible for transfer
- Experience creating digital terrain models using 3D modeling software (Civil 3D)
- Proficiency with engineering drawing creation using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation)
- Familiarity with topographical survey data and geotechnical reporting
- Knowledge of construction methods and materials
- Proficiency with structural analysis and foundation design calculations
- Knowledge of common drafting standards, CAD management, and design documentation practices
- Familiar with North American codes and standards such as CSA, ASCE, IEEE
- Self-directed approach to learning emerging technologies and software applications
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
