Unearthly Materials, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated R&D engineer to support cutting-edge research in superconductivity and advanced materials. This dynamic position involves assisting the R&D team with all aspects of scientific development and future manufacturing support, including prototyping, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of R&D processes. The R&D engineer will ensure the operational functionality and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment, while contributing to transformative scientific advancements. This role is critical in supporting the realization of groundbreaking technologies that could reshape our future.
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain R&D equipment to support ongoing research.
- Utilize a computerized management system for maintenance and repair tracking.
- Assist in the development of new materials and ensure smooth lab operations.
- Support the installation and readiness of new research projects and prototypes.
- Collaborate with senior R&D staff in testing, specification development, and establishment of synthesis processes and characterization.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all safety standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management to ensure successful project execution.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have Most or All of the Following:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent certification.
- Advanced technical training/certification in mechanical, electrical, or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical and electrical drawings, manuals, and reports.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical assembly, machine shop tools, plumbing, vacuum systems, cryogenics, soldering, and wiring as well as strong skills in scientific software and programing.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality control in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to take direction from supervisors and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness in all hands-on tasks.
- Patience and perseverance to see projects through from start to finish, including assembly and testing.
- Experience with LabView or other GUI-based scientific software for automated equipment and data measurement.
- Proficiency in data analysis software and effective problem-solving techniques.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain a professional and cooperative demeanor while interacting with colleagues and external partners.
- Adaptability to evolving work environments and project requirements.
- Capacity to perform physical tasks such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
