We need a motivated Quality Engineer who can thrive in both an informal small business manufacturing environment while conversely being able to liaison with customers that have highly robust and sophisticated quality systems. A successful Quality Engineer will be one that can blend the realities of metal stamping with the potentially ambiguous requirements and expectations of an engineering print without compromising the ethical integrity of the company or themselves. They should be able to speak the vernacular of ASQ doctrine to customers while also being able to connect with any shop employee during quality projects.

The quality engineer position, while supervising a small staff of quality technicians and overseeing inspectors, is still expected to be a working leader who is not shy about directly working through required project tasks and compiling presentable results from beginning to end. When quality issues are identified, the Quality Engineer must be able to handle all aspects of assessment, analysis, collection, communication, and plays a complimentary role with management during resolution with customers and third parties. This position must be able to perform the duties of all positions in the quality department and will be the lead trainer for all quality specific tasks.


Primary Job Responsibilities:

- Subject matter expert in Quality and Regulatory compliance, contributing to attaining and maintaining AS9100D and ISO9001 certifications

- Manages and oversees the Quality Management System; ensure best and most current practices are leveraged company-wide

- Manage Quality department technicians and inspectors (currently staffed at 2 full- time personnel)

- Collaborates internally and externally to determine customer requirements and ensure they are met

- Maintain Supplier scorecards and ratings

- Establishment and use of metrics to monitor the suitability and effectiveness of the QMS

- Develops, maintains, and follows procedures that meet the requirements of ISO and Create, develop, and update PFMEAs, control plans, process flow diagrams, as required by customers

- Champion the implementation of the company’s first NADCAP process certifications (BeCu heat treatment). Maintain the certifications once obtained.

- Responsible for managing QC Inspection, document control personnel & processes, Acceptance Activities, Calibration Process, Quality Management System (QMS)Training Process and Material Review Board

- Champion management’s Continuous Improvement program

- Advises personnel and project teams on quality system and regulatory requirements, coordinates and presents regulatory information, and negotiates with and influences management and colleagues to ensure requirements are met

- Manage the Internal Audit, CAPA program and Supplier CAPA program

- Responsible for regulatory reviews and audits

- Work with process owners of CAPAs and internal audit findings and ensure appropriate corrective actions plans are implemented and verified for effectiveness

- Provide oversight to the on-going maintenance of the Quality System procedures; ensure that changes to the procedures are consistent with the intended structure of the Quality System

- Maintains regulatory files and registrations

- Manages the complaint process

- May develop and deliver training


Qualifications and Skills:

- Minimum of a 4-year degree from an accredited university (or) 8 years of equivalent direct experience in quality inspection and processes (or) a ASQ CQT certificate in good standing (Executive level or upper Management experience will be considered)

- ASQ CQE certified preferred (or CQT with a definitive roadmap working towards the CQE)

- Familiar with metal working principles, practices, and processes. Metal stamping manufacturing processes and metallurgical property understanding highly preferred.

- Strong knowledge of AS9100D regulations and procedures for aerospace products

- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, customers, and suppliers

- Experience as a cross-functional project manager (i.e. can effectively work with sales, engineering, IT, and operations groups)

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret standards and regulations

- Ability to manage critical projects and deadlines as part of an interdisciplinary team

- Presentation skills, technical writing and editing skills

- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required

- Must work well in a SMB manufacturing company environment

- Due to ITAR requirements, employees must have US Person status

- GD&T Understanding
