Arcus is at the forefront of the global shift towards electrification and low-carbon power systems. Our AI-driven Energy Cost Management platform is revolutionizing power management by enabling users to optimize operations based on electricity prices, peak demand periods, and market opportunities. Originally a tech startup in Calgary, Arcus is now expanding globally. We're seeking a skilled Product Manager to join our team and contribute to our accelerated growth.
Our diverse team of data scientists, software developers, electrical engineers, and market analysts is committed to creating intelligent models that support efficient energy resource consumption. Arcus Power fosters a collaborative, innovation-driven, and dynamic culture, where everyone’s input is valued.
As Product Manager – Power Market Data, Forecasting & Flexibility, you will own the vision, roadmap, and delivery of Arcus’s DataHub, price, demand and coincident peak (CP) forecasts, emissions forecasts, battery and dispatch optimization capabilities, ensuring these products solve high‑value problems for traders, asset operators, and large power consumers. You will sit at the intersection of end users or customers, power-market domain experts, data science, and engineering, turning complex market, forecast, and emissions requirements into simple, high‑impact product experiences
- Define and maintain the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for DataHub, price/CP forecasts, emissions forecasts, and dispatch decision-support tools, aligned with Arcus’s growth objectives.
- Translate customer and market needs (traders, IPPs, utilities, large C&I customers) into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and priorities for data science, engineering, and UX teams.
- Partner with data science/ML teams to design, validate, and iterate forecasting models (load, price, CP/peak, renewables, emissions), including accuracy metrics, backtesting, and performance monitoring.
- Own requirements for data ingestion and quality across ISO/RTO, weather, outages, and third‑party feeds, including data schemas, latency, completeness, and reliability SLAs.
- Shape user workflows and UX for analytics, including dashboards, time‑series exploration, nodal/CP views, emissions intensity views, and dispatch/portfolio optimization interfaces.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing on go‑to‑market plans, pricing/packaging, demos, and collateral for forecasting, emissions, and data products.
- Conduct customer discovery, competitive analysis, and market research to identify opportunities and refine product differentiation.
- Manage delivery using agile practices: backlog grooming, sprint planning, prioritization trade‑offs, and stakeholder updates.
- Define, track, and report on product KPIs such as forecast accuracy, adoption, retention, and revenue contribution for your product areas.
- Collaborate with asset operators and traders to ensure DataHub, forecasting, and optimization workflows support battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other flexible assets (e.g., charging, discharging, state‑of‑charge and degradation constraints).
- Define requirements for integrating BESS and demand response (DR) resources into forecasting and dispatch tools, including co‑optimizing storage, DR, and conventional generation against prices, CP events, and emissions.
- Work with engineering and partners to integrate DR and distributed energy resources (DERs) into the platform, covering device connectivity, aggregation, control signals, and participation in demand response and flexibility programs- 5+ years of product management or product owner experience in B2B data/analytics or SaaS, ideally in energy, power markets, or adjacent fintech/data products.
- Demonstrated experience working with data science/ML teams on model‑driven products (forecasts, risk models, or similar), including experimentation and backtesting.
- Strong understanding of North American power markets (at least one ISO/RTO such as ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, SPP, ISONE, or NYISO) and concepts like LMPs, congestion, CP/peak, and renewables integration.
- Proficiency with data/analytics workflows (e.g., time‑series analysis, APIs, SQL/BI tools) and comfort discussing data models, latency, and quality with technical teams.
- Proven ability to gather and synthesize customer requirements, run discovery sessions, and translate them into prioritized product roadmaps.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across engineering, data science, sales, and leadership.
- Hands‑on experience in power trading, asset optimization, origination, or risk management in an ISO/RTO market.
- Familiarity with emissions accounting, carbon intensity methodologies, or ESG reporting frameworks relevant to power and industrial customers.
- Experience building or managing products delivered via modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, data warehouses, or data marketplaces) and REST/GraphQL APIs.
- Background in a quantitative or technical field (engineering, computer science, math, economics) or equivalent experience.
- Exposure to optimization or dispatch tools, including bidding strategies, portfolio optimization, or DER/renewable integration.
- Experience working in high‑growth startups or scale‑ups with agile delivery practices.
- Experience working on or with BESS projects (utility‑scale or C&I), battery optimization, or VPP/aggregated portfolios that include storage.
- Experience designing or operating DR programs, DR/VPP software, or DER orchestration platforms integrating HVAC, and other controllable loads.
- Startup or scale‑up experience, comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration.
- Customer‑obsessed and outcome‑driven, always tying features back to measurable customer and business value.
- Strong systems thinking, able to reason across data ingestion, modeling, UX, and commercial implications in complex power markets.
- Data‑driven decision maker, comfortable using metrics, experiments, and customer feedback to inform prioritization.
- Collaborative and low‑ego, thriving in cross‑functional, multidisciplinary teams (data scientists, engineers, market analysts, and commercial teams).
- Bias for action and ownership, with the ability to operate autonomously in an evolving, fast‑paced environment.
- Clear, concise communicator who can simplify complex market and technical concepts for different audiences
- Comfortable reasoning about complex, multi‑asset systems, including storage, DR, and conventional resources, and how they interact with markets, forecasts, and grid constraints.
