Summary
Vicinity is looking for a Plant Operator to operate and maintain a M.A. 2nd Class Cogeneration Plant which consists of a 4 MW natural gas reciprocating engine with waste heat boiler, two auxiliary firetube boilers, and supporting balance of plant equipment including the 13.8-kv electrical distribution, water treatment, fuel and steam distribution systems. This role is customer facing so the ideal candidate will need to demonstrate professionalism when interacting with the customer, coworkers, and contractors. This is a full-time hourly position, reporting to the Plant Manager in Boston, MA. This position is a member of the Bargaining Unit Member of the IUOE, Local 877. The hourly rate for this position is $43.78.
Responsibilities
- The plant is a single licensed person operation.
- Take responsibility for assigned systems (procedure and drawing updates).
- Perform plant related maintenance & housekeeping.
- Comply with all company, federal, state and local policy & laws.
- Maintain the daily plant logs and complete scheduled plant rounds.
- Work safely and complete required training.
- Support the Lead Operator as directed.
- Oversee contractors.
- Assist in training other Plant Operators.
- Perform other duties as required to ensure continuous operation of the cogeneration plant.
- Assist others as required.
- All other related duties
- Work at other Vicinity locations in Boston as needed.
- Work a 8-hour non-rotating shift schedule.
- Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman License.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Can read and follow basic P&ID’s, electrical 1-Lines, and procedures.
- Experience operating with iFix SCADA system or similar preferred.
- Familiar with basic Microsoft Office products.
- AutoCad & Maximo experience preferred.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must submit to company provided pre-employment physical exam and drug screening.
- Amount of time spent – Standing 25%, Walking 25%, Bending and Stooping 50%.
- Must be able to lift up to and including 50lbs, maneuver objects in excess of 100 pounds, and climb ladders as required.
- Spends 100% of time in maintenance environment.
- May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Equipment noise greater than 100 db. and hazards such as high-pressure steam lines and rotating equipment.
- Working with and thereby exposed to water treatment chemicals.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and other protective gear required to perform job duties.
- Stoop, kneel, or crouch, enter confined spaces and work on scaffolds or other elevated areas. Will be required to use ladders and stairs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Requires close visual observation to detect process non-conformance and machine malfunction.
