Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to manage and process payroll for union and non-union employees. This role requires a strong understanding of union contracts, collective bargaining agreements, and compliance with federal and state labor laws. The ideal candidate will also support HR functions, including benefits administration, onboarding, and employee relations.
- Accurately process weekly/bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union employees.
- Interpret and apply union contract provisions related to wages, benefits, and deductions.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with labor laws and company policies.
- Coordinate with union representatives and HR to resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit payroll reports to the finance and HR departments.
- Ensure correct application of prevailing wage rates, shift differentials, and overtime rules.
- Track and report union dues, fringe benefits, and other contractual obligations.
- Stay current with changes in union agreements and labor regulations.
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Maintain employee records in HRIS and payroll systems.
- Support benefits enrollment and administration.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and HR policies.
- Assist in compliance reporting (EEO, ACA, etc.).- 3+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Solid understanding of collective bargaining agreements and union payroll practices.
- Familiarity with HR functions and employment law.
- Proficiency in payroll software (Miter, Viewpoint, ect) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience with multi-state payroll.
- Knowledge of construction or manufacturing industry payroll practices.
- HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
