Operator

Description

Responsible for the safe, proper, and efficient operation of the assigned power plants and process facilities. This is the entry operator position and is responsible for operating and monitoring plant equipment outside of the control room. Records operational data and reports any abnormalities. May perform minor maintenance tasks. All duties are performed in accordance with approved procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Work is performed with minimal supervision and direction from the Control Operator.

Responsibilities

- Adhere to, and support, all company safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures

- Maintain the wellfield, brine processing facility, power station, and control room in a safe and clean operating condition

- Inspect and monitor equipment to detect malfunctions, need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication

- Record notes and communicates pertinent data, observations, and trends regarding normal and transient operation to the Control Operator and shift relief initiates work orders as needed

- Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specific intervals

- Record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, pressures, voltage load and generator balance, and power meter readings

- Assist in the start-up, operation, and shutdown of all equipment

- Assist or perform start-up of turbine/generators sets and synchronization

- Perform a variety of chemical analysis, including obtaining samples, performing the analysis and interpreting the results of the analysis

- Monitoring plant performance and ensuring optimum operating conditions are maintained

- Perform mechanical duties, i.e., PPM’s, minor repairs and/or emergency repairs

- Responsible for progressing in the company-training program and assisting others

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); knowledge of power plant operation; or equivalent education and experience

- Knowledge of PC software applications, including spreadsheet, word processing, and database

Language Skills

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately

- Ability to communicate orally, including the use of a radio and group presentations

Mathematical Skills

- Ability to calculate figures and amounts including percentages, area, circumference, and volume

- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Reasoning Ability

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Certificates. Licenses, Registrations

- A valid California driver’s license is required

- It also requires one to be able to climb ladders and steps as high as 60 feet

- Often times it is required to enter a confined area and climb to heights and get into difficult to access areas of vessels

- At times the employee is required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

- The individual is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms

- The employee will be utilizing all of the sensory perceptions such as touch, taste, feel, hearing and seeing

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

- The Company will provide the employee with initial training on all known hazardous substances and occupational hazards prior to allowing the employee to perform a particular duty unsupervised

- Annual refresher training will also be provided on all known hazards, and new hazards as they are identified
