The Maintenance Technician / Crane Inspector plays a key role in supporting DeLong’s daily production operations by ensuring that machinery, equipment, facilities, and overhead cranes operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This position focuses on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to minimize downtime and maintain compliance with safety standards. With an emphasis on safety, attention to detail, and proactive maintenance, the Maintenance Technician / Crane Inspector helps sustain a productive work environment and supports DeLong’s ability to deliver high-quality steel bridges and structural components for the transportation and building industries. This role supports operations at both company locations: Jefferson City and Sedalia.
Maintenance and Equipment Support: Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of machinery, equipment, electrical systems, and physical plant structures to ensure safe and efficient production operations. This includes dismantling, repairing, and reassembling equipment as needed, as well as cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears, and other critical components to maintain optimal performance.
Crane Inspections and Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance with a strong emphasis on overhead cranes. Specialize in crane inspections and ensure all findings are properly documented in compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards. Proactively identify potential issues to minimize downtime and support safe lifting operations.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions through visual inspections, testing, and collaboration with supervisors, operators, and co-workers. Recommend and implement corrective actions to restore equipment functionality and prevent recurring issues.
Electrical and Facility Maintenance: Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical apparatus, including transformers, wiring, and electronic components. Maintain the physical structures of the plant facility to ensure a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.
Fabrication and Maintenance Tracking: Operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines to fabricate parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools required for maintenance and repair activities. Utilize preventative maintenance software to report, track, and complete assigned tasks, ensuring accurate records and effective maintenance planning.
A two-year technical degree with an industrial, electrical, or mechanical emphasis is preferred, along with hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, and general repair maintenance; however, equivalent work experience will be considered. Strong organizational, verbal, written, interpersonal, and time-management skills are essential to effectively support maintenance operations and communicate with production and leadership teams. Dependability, demonstrated through regular and reliable attendance, is critical for success in this role. Experience with overhead crane maintenance and inspections is preferred, as is computer proficiency and the ability to utilize preventative maintenance software.
