- Promote and maintain the physical and psychosocial well-being of the employees of ArcelorMittal Dofasco by providing Health care treatment, Emergency Response services, and Wellness promotion with the goal of achieving the employee’s optimum function, supporting health and safety initiatives, including our journey to zero fatalities and zero serious injuries - Believe in Zero.
- Manage and implement surveillance medical program ensuring compliance with all Ministry of Labour legislation for designated substances as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Develop, facilitate, and implement return to work plans for employees working with internal and external resources to maximum their level of occupational potential and to decrease extended absences in the workplace.
- Initiate interventions for employees with mental health and addiction issues and promote internal and/or external resources to ensure optimal wellbeing, including in crisis situations.
- Provide occupational nursing assessment, care, and expertise to employees in the event of occupational injury, critical illness and/or occupational disease.
- Utilize health promotions strategies to prevent illness, as well as Wellness health teaching and interventions.
- Perform and/or coordinate the required medical surveillance testing (i.e.: medical history review, audiogram, spirometry, vision testing, bloodwork, urinalysis, etc.) on employees who have had past and/or present exposure to designated substances as well as in house surveillance programs.
- Provide support and collaboration of disability management program for early and safe return to work. Developing effective initial return to work assessments for injured/ill employees, interacting effectively with the internal Disability Management/Claims department to rehabilitate employees back to the workplace. Support and develop gradual return to work programs as needed.
- Support employees in mental health crisis and facilitate referral to appropriate outside agencies as required, i.e. community resources, Homewood Health EFAP, consulting physicians. Review of complex cases with Mental Health Issues, development and implementation of effective treatment plans liaising with Psychiatric Specialists, EFAP, Homewood Treatment Facility, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing/Defusing. Monitor employees on a follow-up basis to support effective return to work programs after addiction treatment programs. Liaise with HR Employee Relations, area supervision, and business unit managers in work issues and fitness to work situations.
- Be a member of the Emergency Response Team responding to in-plant medical emergencies providing nursing care to injured or critically ill employees as well as collaboration and medical direction to Fire and Security Personnel.
- Provide nursing expertise to all Wellness initiatives including health screening (i.e.: blood glucose, cholesterol and HbA1C), interpretation of results, health teaching and referral to appropriate medical specialists as required, follow-up with employees as required. Conduct literature searches to ensure best practices are maintained, development and presentation at Health and Safety days as requested.
- Support annual Flu Campaign, provide solutions to improve program utilization as needed.
- Bachelor Science in Nursing Degree (BScN) is required.
- Registered Nurse, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Occupational Health, Emergency Nursing and/or Mental Health/Addictions.
- Specialty in Occupational Health Nursing, COHN(C) is an asset.
- Valid Class G Driver’s License is required, with the ability to upgrade to F license to drive company ambulance.
- RN prescribing certification from an accredited CNO program is an asset.
- Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) is an asset.
- NIDMAR designation as Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) is an asset.
- Demonstrated clinical competence in nursing assessment, triage, and emergency care.
- Working knowledge of occupational health practices and medical clinic operations; experience in these areas is considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) legislation, disability management practices, and insurance carrier policies.
- General understanding of ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s business operations is an asset.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification is required. International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, negotiation, and facilitation skills.
- Strong self-management skills, including the ability to act as a self-starter, engage in self-directed learning, and take initiative and ownership of goals and outcomes.
- Intermediate proficiency using corporate software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Experience using Cority occupational health software is an asset.
- Experience performing audiometric testing and/or working within hearing conservation programs is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in disability case management and return to work coordination is required.
On-site clinic/office environment. Requires occasional plant visits and physical response to emergency medical calls within the plant environment via company ambulance. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
8.5-hour days (Monday- Friday) with possible extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads/emergent situations. 42.5 hour work week with 30-minute unpaid break. On call phone rotation to provide support to off shift emergency response team.

The salary range for this position is $63,000 - $96,000. Starting salary will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and work experience.
