Osmose Utilities is seeking to fill Safety Specialist II role must based in the Northeast US (PA/NY/MA area) 100% Travel will use personal vehicle.
As part of a growing company and safety team, the Safety Specialist Ii will work/travel within their assigned region, across all business lines, to proactively improve safety performance and support the Osmose Safety Management Program.
On a daily basis, the Safety Specialist will work collaboratively with crew personnel, subcontractors, operations management, and project management to ensure company and customer safety policies, programs, plans, procedures, and work practices are understood, implemented, and properly and consistently executed.
The position requires excellent communication, coaching, teamwork, time management, computer skills, and will require weekly regional travel.
The
Safety Specialist IIworks within assigned region, across all profit centers and services, to proactively improve safety performance and support the Osmose Safety Management Program. The Safety Specialist will work collaboratively with field management and territory leadership to ensure safety polices, programs, plans, and procedures are implemented, understood, and properly and consistently executed by field operations personnel. The Safety Specialist will also assist with the development and delivery of safety communications, meetings, and training. The position requires excellent communication, coaching, inter-personal, and computer skills, and will require extensive regional travel.
Responsibilities
- Must be authorized to work in US without sponsorship.
- Ensure hazard and risk assessment and control measures are in place, utilized, and effective; address risks and safety concerns; improve safety performance; identify and share best practices.
- Conduct and document safety inspections and audits; provide field operations personnel with on-the-spot constructive feedback and coaching to improve knowledge, understanding, behaviors, and performance.
- Advise and assist field operations personnel with company, customer, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, and EPA).
- Monitor and assist with reporting, internal communication, and proper management of incidents, including injury/illness evaluation and first aid guidance.
- Collaborate with field management and risk management teams to ensure injury, vehicle, and property damage incidents (cases and claims) are properly managed.
- Assist with and/or review investigations into safety-related incidents; recommend and monitor corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor safety performance metrics and trends (leading and lagging indicators) and recommend and support corrective actions to improve.
- Assist with the communication, implementation, and oversight of safety-related policies, programs, and procedures.
- Assist with development and delivery of safety-related communications and training (alerts, bulletins, meetings, presentations, videos, etc.)
- Represent and support Operations and Safety during customer visits and interactions.
- Associate’s (two-year) degree; bachelor's degree preferred.
- At least three years of work experience, which include safety responsibilities, in the utility, construction, or field service industry.
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulatory requirements, first aid, and CPR.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Experienced and adept at coaching employees, working with difficult people, and resolving difficult situations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and confidently to employees, supervisors, management, and customers. Must be able to write using proper spelling, grammar, and style.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The position may also require the employee to occasionally bend, crouch, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 pounds, utilize hand and power tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, drill), and work with chemicals (including pesticides).
Work Environment
Position requires working in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity, freezing temperatures, uneven terrain, and exposure to poisonous plants, insects, animals, and allergens. The employee may also be exposed to chemicals (e.g., pesticides, coatings), energized electrical equipment, and noise exceeding 85 decibels.
Travel
Position requires regional (multi-state), overnight travel, ranging from 80% to 100%.
