DESCRIPTION OF POSITION’S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the general direction of the Safety Manager the Safety Specialist is responsible to promote safe and healthy working conditions by developing programs, procedures and audit functions designed to eliminate industrial health and safety hazards at the Rosebud Mine in compliance with MSHA, State regulations and Company established guidelines and procedures. The Safety Specialist must always promote safety awareness to all employees and assist the Safety Manager with accident and incident reporting, workers’ compensation reporting and MSHA compliance and reporting. Prepare weekly Safety reports and during the Safety Managers absences prepare monthly Safety Reports. Assist with MSHA required training, i.e. New Miner, Supervisor’s First Aid and Annual Refresher Training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent experience in the Mining Health & Safety field. Experience in mining methods and equipment a must. Basic computer knowledge is required. Statistical, analytical and evaluative skills, which demonstrate the ability to analyze, interpret and effectively communicate Mine safety information, policies and regulations. Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills. The ability to interact and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of employees and State and Federal Mine safety representatives.
Pre-employment drug screening and personal, criminal backgrounds checks and Drivers’ License history will be conducted on all candidates that receive a conditional offer. Successful applicant must possess a valid driver’s license through the duration of employment. Successful applicant must meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland’s policies or Driver’s insurance provider.
