The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing hands-on maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of rotating and stationary equipment within a refinery or chemical processing facility. This role ensures mechanical equipment is reliable, safe, and operating efficiently to support continuous plant operations.
- Help support plant personnel to remove, install, and rebuild motors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, turbines, blowers, and fans.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and help plant personnel repair mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, and other rotating equipment components.
- Support for precision alignments on equipment
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
- Support plant maintenance to execute corrective repairs, including gasket replacement, shaft repair, seal replacement, and lubrication tasks.
- Assist with overhaul and rebuild activities on large critical machinery during turnarounds or outages.
- Identify root causes of mechanical failures using vibration data, visual inspection, measurements, and operating history.
- Recognize abnormal noises, vibration, temperature, or performance changes and take appropriate action.
- Collaborate with reliability, operations, and engineering teams for complex troubleshooting.
- Follow all refinery/chemical plant safety rules, including LOTO, hot work, confined space entry, line breaking, and hazard communication requirements.
- Participate in job safety analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and maintain safe housekeeping in all work areas.
- Report unsafe conditions and participate in incident investigations when needed.
- Communicate equipment status, delays, and needs to supervision and operations personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment condition.
- Support 24/7 operations during callouts, emergencies, or turnaround events when required.
- Assist in maintaining spare parts, tools, and equipment to support maintenance activities.- 10+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial, refinery, petrochemical, or power plant environment.
- Strong understanding of rotating equipment fundamentals.
- Proficiency in installing and aligning motors, pumps, compressors, and similar machinery.
- Familiarity with mechanical seals, bearings, lubrication systems, and rigging practices.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, torque equipment, and lifting devices.
- Basic knowledge of vibration monitoring and diagnostic techniques (a plus).
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments (heat, heights, confined spaces).
