Create, plan, develop, produce, and distribute internal and external Utility communication materials, advertising, marketing and informational media, with the goal to increase awareness and education of MPW products and services. Includes creating, modifying and posting content on the mpw.org website and other social media .
- Develop concepts and design materials promoting Utility goals, objectives, products, and services that support the Marketing Plan. This may include:
- Newspaper, radio, television, social, and digital advertising.
- Internal campaigns, Utility team materials, or presentations and materials for other departments.
- Customer mailings, newsletters, brochures, or other media for public consumption.
- Photography/videography of internal and external Utility events and activities.
- Production of short videos for social, web, and cross-channel usage.
- Evaluate, tag, and provide finished cross-channel (video) spots to ICAN to be inserted on networks.
- Maintain and produce programming for MPW TV (commercial channel) 17. Coordinate activities with production companies responsible for public-access channel 9, Pearl City TV channel 3 and Musser Public Library MPL5, channel 5.
- Produce graphic designs and copy layouts for content, coordinating illustrative material and copy among all communication channels.
- Manage website and social media promotional materials including, but not limited to, drafting/scheduling content, responding to customers, updating and creating content for online banners and web pages, links, and emails.
- When necessary, work with web design firm to incorporate necessary site upgrades.
- Act as back-up for the other Marketing & Communications Specialist, providing support as needed to ensure the continuity of operations.
- Maintain and produce programming for MPW TV 5 (commercial channel). Coordinate activities with production companies responsible for any public-access or local leased access channels, operated on MPW TV.
- Develop concepts and lead various public relations activities supporting Utility initiatives at the direction of the department manager including:
- Maintain various informational displays throughout the Utility and community, including the MPW display at the National Pearl Button Museum.
- Support MPW community activities such as parades and event marketing, many of which occur outside of the normal workday.
- Assist in providing information for the development of the annual operating budget for Marketing area.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, advertising, journalism or similar concentration or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in marketing, graphic design, written communications, and public relations with an emphasis on information technology, customer education and awareness.
- Understand and stay current in changing professional social media platforms.
- Knowledge of marketing, communications, advertising concepts, and journalism writing style (AP style).
- Knowledge of print shop requirements for camera-ready artwork and the use of scanning and photography equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and proofreading skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.
- Experience with website content management (WordPress is preferred, not required).
- Proficiency with use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite products such as Premiere Pro, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dream Weaver, etc. at an advanced level.
- Strong graphic design skills, with skills in audio/visual production and digital photography.
- Good judgment and reasoning skills.

- Ability to meet deadlines and balance workload including the support of the Marketing team and department manager.

- Must maintain a method of communication in order to be contacted by MPW outside normal work hours.
- Work environment is primarily in an office environment. Occasional visits to a coal-fired industrial power plant, marketing display locations throughout the city, and attendance at community events may be necessary.
- Must comply with all safety and site rules at all locations.
