Winoa Canada is seeking an experienced and licensed Maintenance Technician (Welder/Fitter) to join the maintenance team at our Welland facility. The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical problem solver with experience in melt shop equipment, material handling systems (conveyors, screeners, shakers, elevators), dust collection and ventilation, process systems, and utilities. The Maintenance Technician (Welder/Fitter) works closely with Maintenance Technicians – Electrical/Mechanical and production staff to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
- Assist with equipment installation, preventative maintenance, and repair in accordance with work orders, provincial standards, OEM specifications, and Winoa procedures.
- Perform structural repairs, fabrication, and welding throughout the plant based on prints and specifications.
- Install process piping, ducting, and accessories according to drawings and construction standards.
- Follow all Winoa health and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, working at heights, confined space entry, and use of required PPE at all times.
- Work with contractors as needed to support repairs and maintenance during shutdowns or emergency work.
- Complete work order documentation in the CMMS (Carl).
- Use rigging equipment and cranes safely to complete maintenance tasks.
- Maintain clear communication with the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Coordinator, and Shift Supervisor to support production and departmental needs.
- Participate in the Health and Safety program by reporting near misses and incidents.
- Support the Winoa’s 5S program through good housekeeping and continuous improvement in the maintenance department.
- Welder/Fabricator trade ticket (456A or 437A).
- CWB certification.
- Strong pipefitting, fabrication, and fit-up skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, manuals, and procedures.
- Experience maintaining mechanical equipment following established procedures.
- Proficient use of rigging equipment and safe rigging/hoisting techniques.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to assist other Mechanics as required.
- Basic computer skills to work with a CMMS.
- Strong communication skills and a positive team attitude.
- Proactive, safety- and environmentally-conscious approach, with a bias toward improvement and problem solving.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and able to travel to Welland, Ontario.
- Experience in a foundry or primary metals industry is an asset.
- Experience with material processing and handling systems is an asset.
- Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lb).
- Ability to work in varying atmospheric conditions and environments associated with steel-making processes.
- Comfortable using hand and power tools.
- Ability to work in confined spaces when required.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Ability to wear required PPE at all times.
- Ability to work rotating shifts (days, afternoons, nights) and overtime as required.
- Competitive hourly wage of $34.05 – $39.20, plus shift premiums for afternoons and midnights.
