The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for executing turnaround events, ensuring all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the integrated plan developed by the Senior Turnaround Coordinator. While the Senior Coordinator is accountable for overall turnaround planning and strategy, the Specialist plays a critical role in translating the plan into action by coordinating resources, managing schedules, and ensuring execution readiness across all fronts. This role requires strong collaboration with planners, schedulers, coordinators, contractors, and operations teams to support seamless execution and continuous improvement.
This position will require the successful candidate to work at one or more of the following Cenovus sites, based on business needs: Christina Lake, Foster Creek, or Sunrise.
- This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation
- Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities
- Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations
- Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton
- Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB
- This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation
- Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.
- Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton
- At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities
- Support turnaround kick-off activities, 18-month Plan-to-Plan milestones, turnaround planning initiatives, stage gate reviews, and required approvals to ensure alignment with the execution plan.
- Facilitate Turnaround Execution Team meetings to review scopes and schedules, assign and track action items, integrate operations, maintenance, and construction work plans, and ensure milestone and turnover (MOC) requirements are met.
- Support contractor selection, approval and engagement; establish contractor requirements; and confirm required resources (people, equipment, and third-party services) are approved, available, and scheduled.
- Audit work packages with planners, schedulers, and coordinators; support development of cleaning procedures, permitting strategies, equipment utilization plans, asset integrity reviews, and risk mitigation plans to enable safe and efficient execution.
- Coordinate break-in and emergent work with key stakeholders, review the master execution schedule, and participate in post-turnaround contractor reviews and lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
- Lead contractor and support service mobilization and oversee execution of the turnaround event.
- Manage the turnaround schedule, duration, execution plans, costs, and critical path.
- Maintain shift update reports to ensure effective turnover and coordination with night shift counterparts.
- Report and support evaluation of late or found work requests in alignment with the Late Work/Found Work process.
- Lead turnaround close-out activities and support post-event reporting and handover.
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in Turnaround and Maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution, including demonstrated leadership experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- Trade certification or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, with proven experience in maintenance standard processes and optimization initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance, reliability, and project management principles, paired with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites as required.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
