The Maintenance Contracts Inspector performs skilled multi-trade inspection work, overseeing the installation, repair, modification, testing, calibration, and operation of multi-disciplined systems to endure compliance with facility and equipment maintenance and service contracts.
- Inspects work performed under a wide variety of maintenance contracts and services, including electrical fire alarm services and inspections; flow meter preventive maintenance, calibration and repair services; generator preventive maintenance and repair services, HVAC services, mechanical services, plumbing services, sprinkler system preventive maintenance, installation, repairs and services, switchgear preventive maintenance repairs and thermography services
- Performs inspections to ensure compliance with material, workmanship, and safety standards
- Monitors contractor work for completion and quality
- Prints and distributes work orders to team members
- Inspects new and existing facilities, ensuring correction of deficiencies, maintaining current and accurate records, and providing technical advice, guidance, and assistance when required
- Works independently, exercising sound technical judgment and discretion in making decisions
- Performs customer interviews and inspections of new and existing systems for a variety of contracts and installations to ensure conformance with safety and WSSC Water requirements; makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements
- Investigates complaints of unsafe conditions, orders repair of discovered defects, and ensures code violations are corrected
- Inspects systems following fires or other natural disasters; develops the scope of work required to restore such systems to safe operating condition
- Assists the Section Manager in writing multiple contract specifications; conducts reference and performance checks on newly awarded contracts
- Determines validity of contractor cost estimates under provisions of the agreement; reviews invoices, authorizes payments, and discusses discrepancies with contractor
- Monitors the performance of contractors; approves routine design changes as require
- Verifies existence of plans and specifications for proposed projects and prepares plans and specifications for contractors, if required
- Contacts equipment suppliers to obtain delivery dates, replacement parts, and warranty replacements, and to discuss design deficiencies
- Apprises supervisor of problems encountered during installation; recommends ways to improve contractor workmanship
- Provides advice and guidance on the installation of equipment and preparing as-built drawings; obtains equipment manuals
- Prepares reports for and receives general supervision from the assigned Facility Services Division’s Section Manager
- Performs or serves as witness to testing
- Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
- Serves as the Acting Section Manager in their absence or in the field of operations

- Working knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of equipment and appliances
- Working knowledge of potential defects and faults in a variety of systems, appliances and equipment, standard testing devices, and effective corrective measures
- Working knowledge of the requirements of local and national codes and standards
- Knowledge of the function and servicing of electrical, mechanical, or plumbing equipment
- Ability to detect and locate defective installations and to determine the state of projects and installation
- Ability to prepare and work from various project specifications and blueprints, drawings, and diagrams
- Good interpersonal communication skills on inspection and regulatory matters
- Ability to use estimating programs to provide the Project Manager with material and labor costs involved in various projects
- Ability to recommend project corrections to ensure compliance with codes
- 5 years of journeyman level work experience in the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical, with Construction experience.
