The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission (SWSC) is seeking a qualified Maintenance Electrician to work out of its Colton Street location. To apply, please review the full job posting and upload a resume and letter of interest.
This is a non-exempt position involving various tasks and inspections of a technical nature to insure the proper repair and maintenance of Commission equipment and properties. Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. Work also involves responsibility for adjusting, testing, repairing and maintaining a wide variety of standard and specialized precision instruments and devices, including the adjustment of process control loops. Supervision is exercised over other employees. Employee may be required to work various shifts, locations, and weekends. Employees shall be required to work in emergency situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESincludes but not limited to the following:
- Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programable controllers.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
- Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Machine Repairer, to diagnose malfunction.
- Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relay, switches and motors, and positions sensing devices
- Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
- Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors
- Cleans adjusts, maintains, repairs, tests, and calibrates electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical measuring, gauging, indicating, recording, transmitting, and sensing device timers and control instruments and related devices.
- Pushes buttons and presses keys on controllers, teach pendant, and programmable, controller to program automate machinery, to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs
- Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical, and electrical apparatus in buildings
- Assigned to any of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission properties or elsewhere when necessary
- Other related duties as assigned
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
- Must be able to work closely with Planner to schedule tasks and supervises skilled labor or technicians during daily work operations.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles on which electric, electronic, communication, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and other types of instruments and automatic control devices operate, the functions of their component parts, and their use in process control loops.
- Working knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures of the trade including familiarity with recognized safety manuals.
- Must be able to diagnose electrical/ instrumentation malfunctions and have the ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, blueprints or manufacturers’ instruction manuals to diagnose malfunctions.
- Must possess and maintain a current State Drivers License.
- Must possess and maintain a Journeyman Electricians License
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- The employee must regularly lift and carry small packages of up to 20 pounds.
- The employee must be able to lift and carry boxes of supplies, materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds necessary to perform job functions.
- Considerable experience as an electrician with at least five (5) years’ experience in high voltage electrical work.
- Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school supplemented by industrial, college or technical school training in instrument repair or closely related fields.
