About Friendswood
ExxonMobil’s state-of-the-art campuses of Houston serve as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The Houston-Friendswood facility opened in 1949 and accommodates more than 100 employees and visitors.
By bringing many global functional groups together, the campus provides employees with the tools and capabilities needed today, and in the future, to achieve business objectives and accelerate the discovery of new resources, technologies and products. The Houston-Friendswood campus is located in Houston, Texas, on 100 wooded acres immediately to the east of Interstate Highway 45 (I-45), at the intersection of Galveston Rd-HWY 3 and Dixie Farm Rd, approximately 18 miles south from the cultural vibrancy of downtown Houston.

- Champion lithium research operations – Pilot unit operations (autoclaves, extractions and separations) and sample analysis for R&D and business.
- Support research programs involving pilot unit sampling operations and configuration changes including optimization, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Provide sample analysis including, but is not limited to: filtration, evaporation, water treatment measurements (pH, TSS, TDS, NMR).
- Possess a B.S. or M.S. science degree (geochemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields) with emphasis on analytical separation.
- Hands-on experience with water treatment facility methods such as ICP, TOC, pH, TSS, TDS and NMR including analyses, data processing and instrument maintenance.
- Recognize process upsets and trouble shoot solutions to maintain unit stability.
- Attention to detail and the ability to follow proper lab procedures and uphold good housekeeping practices in lab.
- Ability to use motorized equipment (pallet jack), mechanical lifting devices (crane or forklift), and manual operated hand tools.
- Willingness to be involved in research that is highly exploratory in nature and may support programs within division and affiliate organizations.
- Good communication skills for understanding and describing scientific observations, experimental plans and results, equipment and material design concepts.
- Ability to quickly learn new tasks and integrate them into workflows.
- Organized, punctual, and takes full responsibility for laboratory procedural compliance and safe laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, chemical and supply ordering, chemical inventory, safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
- Effective in a team working environment, enjoys challenges, and committed to lifelong learning.
- Strictly adhere to SOPs and Run Plans for different pilot unit configurations and water analysis methods and workflows.
- Comfortable and confident in working with solvents and chemicals.
- Experience with working in pilot and analytical lab environments
- Expertise with ion detection instruments including Tveskaeg NanoNord NMR analyzer, other LC or MS systems, and LabView data acquisition and processing software.
- Experience with flow controls devices including Keyence and Alicat flow meters and flow controllers.
- Experience with pilot unit devices such as autoclave, extractors and fluid transport pumps (dynamic and positive displacement).
- Experience in water treatment instrument components (resins, membranes, filtration, evaporation) and treatment methods including chemical softening, dilutions and acid/base chemistry.
