POSITION OVERVIEW – Laser Welding Programmer Technician
The Laser Welding Programmer Technician is responsible for developing, programming, and optimizing advanced 5-axis 3D laser welding processes for complex components. This role supports production and new product introduction by creating robust welding programs, integrating vision systems, optimizing laser parameters, and ensuring consistent, high-quality weld results across varying part conditions.
- Develop, simulate, and optimize 5-axis 3D laser welding programs using Siemens Sinumerik One controls
- Program laser welding paths using TRUMPF Teach Panel and 6D mouse technology to define tool paths and optimal nozzle orientations on complex 3D surfaces
- Configure and program VisionLine Detect camera systems to identify workpiece features and apply real-time positional corrections
- Optimize welding parameters using BrightLine Weld Comfort to achieve high feed rates while minimizing spatter and ensuring weld quality
- Configure FocusLine Professional settings, including programmable focus positions and beam aspect ratios based on material thickness and geometry
- Lead the prove-out and validation of new part recipes, including parameter tuning and first-article support
- Monitor and log real-time laser power data using Active Laser Power Control to ensure consistent and repeatable weld results
- Troubleshoot welding issues related to optics, focus, vision alignment, and laser parameters to reduce downtime and scrap
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to support continuous process improvement and new product launches
- Maintain accurate documentation for welding programs, parameters, and process standards
- Experience programming and operating industrial laser welding systems, preferably 5-axis or robotic platforms
- Hands-on experience with Siemens CNC controls (Sinumerik preferred)
- Familiarity with TRUMPF laser systems, teach panels, and welding technologies
- Strong understanding of laser welding principles, optics, focus control, and material interaction
- Experience working with vision systems for seam tracking or part recognition
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Strong troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing or production environment
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced shop floor setting
- Experience with BrightLine Weld Comfort, FocusLine Professional, and VisionLine Detect
- Background in high-volume or high-precision manufacturing environments
- Strong attention to detail and process discipline
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
- Ability to work independently while collaborating cross-functionally
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical teams
