Job Title: Labourer, Operations

Reporting Directly to the Supervisor, Earthworks and the Supervisor, Pit from time to time, this position is responsible for general labour duties related to construction and quarrying work at the Eskay Creek Mine site.

This role will be responsible for the safe work in varying locations, conditions and with varying small tools and equipment.

Position Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To) Mining & Construction Operations

- Perform mining-related duties including moving supplies, fueling equipment, moving pumps and light plants, and setting up dewatering systems.

- Perform construction-related duties including operating plate compactors, shoveling, raking, installing geosynthetics, installing culverts/pipes, and cleaning tracks.

- Assist with wastewater pumping and potable water pumping.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

- Assist with fuel and lubrication on large equipment.

- Perform pre-operational equipment checks.

- Clean, grease, and refill fluids in equipment as required.

- Operate light vehicles and equipment in rough and uneven terrain.

Site Maintenance & Housekeeping

- Assist with general site cleaning and maintenance.

- Move supplies and materials as required across the site.

Safety & Compliance

- Attend and actively participate in pre-shift safety meetings.

- Uphold and embody Skeena Gold + Silver safety standards.

- Adhere to all applicable safety standards, regulations, and rules.

- Participate in site-specific training as required.

Documentation & Reporting

- Complete required shift paperwork including FLHAs, JHAs, equipment inspection sheets, and load sheets.

Additional Responsibilities

- Perform all other reasonable duties as required by the Company.

Experience / Qualifications

- Familiarity with heavy civil and mining construction including types of equipment, operations and work sequencing.

- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

- Strong commitment to promoting and maintaining good Health and Safety Culture.

- Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment is required.

- Self-motivated, with the ability to minimal supervision.

- Applicants who do not have direct construction or mining labour experience may be considered based on other work experience and willingness to learn.

- Experience working with water pumps, fueling pumps and small equipment, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

- Familiarity with HDPE pipe bolt-up and small equipment such as skid steers, AWPs, telehandlers, fusing machines, mini excavators, and 10-ton packers.

- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in difficult and uneven terrain.

- Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools.

- Ability to work and operate safely in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, fog, and sun.

- Additional certifications or experience such as Fall Arrest Training, First Aid, Class 3 or Class 1 Driver’s License, Mine Rescue Training, or previous JOHSC participation would be considered an asset

Working Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 day on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected hourly range for this position is CAD $28-$33 in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines, and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
