GFL Environmental Services USA, LLC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Environment and Compliance Specialist to join our team. As a Junior Specialist, you will act as a bridge between corporate environmental standards, applicable regulations, and day-to-day site operations. You will spend time in the field, conducting audits, supporting site managers, and providing the necessary coaching to maintain a culture of compliance. - Site Audits: Conduct regular on-site environmental audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Support & Inquiries: Act as a primary point of contact for sites regarding environmental questions and regulatory inquiries.
- Corrective Action & Coaching: Identify areas of non-compliance and work collaboratively with site teams to return to compliance through coaching, training, and supportive actions.
- Permitting & Reporting: Monitor and assist in maintaining up-to-date environmental permits, licenses, and mandatory regulatory reporting (e.g., Waste transportation, Tier II, TRI, Stormwater/SWPPP).
- SOP Implementation: Assist with the implementation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and environmental best practices (SOP development/creation as needed).
- Training Implementation: Assist with the implementation and maintenance of environmental training modules to site personnel to ensure widespread understanding of compliance obligations.
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous environmental records and documentation to ensure audit readiness at all times.
- Travel: Travel to various GFL sites within the assigned region to provide hands-on support and oversight.
- Emergency Response Support: Assist with environmental aspects of incident response and remediation, if required.
- Special Projects: Support regional environmental managers with data collection, research, and technical analysis for special projects.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Previous work experience in the EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) or environmental field is preferred but not required.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with major environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CAA, CWA, DOT).
- Understanding of Waste Management industry practices is a plus.
- Multitasking & Prioritization: Proven ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Agility & Growth Mindset: Ability to keep up with GFL's rapid organizational growth and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to "coach" and explain complex regulations to diverse teams.
- Analytical Skills: High attention to detail with the ability to identify risks and suggest practical solutions.
- Travel Readiness: Willingness and ability to travel frequently to various industrial operational sites.
