Summary:

The Intermediate Structural Designer will work under the general supervision of the Lead Designer to develop conceptual designs and specification drawings for structural steel and concrete structures for mining projects. This role works closely with structural engineers and designers in multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, practical, and cost-effective structural solutions in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.

Responsibilities

- Participate in the planning and creation of structural drawings involving the design of structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber structural systems.

- Set up drawing and modelling templates in 3D BIM software for the creation of structural models and drawings.

- Prepare structural models and drawings for buildings and structures related to underground mining, including headframes, buildings, conveyor galleries, crusher stations bunkers, sinking stages and loading stations.

- Create details for structural elements.

- Coordinate design activities with designers in the Mechanical and Electrical departments.

- Ensure drawings comply with company QA/QC requirements.

- Participate in design reviews to ensure design concepts fulfill engineers’ requirements.

- Review vendor drawings, standard details, field data and information provided by project personnel to develop detail design drawings.

- May provide technical guidance to junior structural drafters and designers.

Qualifications

- Diploma or Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering / Engineering Technology, or equivalent

- 5+ years of experience in structural design, with experience working in a 3D model environment in the construction, engineering or mining industries or a combination thereof

- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit required

- Knowledge of applicable structural design software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks and other Autodesk software is an asset.

- Ability to plan and layout drawings under the supervision of a Senior Designer

- Strong attention to detail

- Understanding construction techniques, engineering principles and heavy equipment support concepts

- Strong communications skills

Additional Information

- Salary Range is expected to be between: $79,000.00 CAD to $101,000.00 CAD.
