Job Summary
The Sandblaster is responsible for preparing metal and other material surfaces using abrasive blasting techniques to meet customer and quality specifications. This role supports contract manufacturing operations by ensuring components are properly cleaned, finished, and prepared for coating, painting, welding, or assembly in accordance with safety, quality, and production standards.
- Perform abrasive blasting (sandblasting, grit blasting, shot blasting, or bead blasting) on metal and fabricated components per work instructions and customer specifications
- Select appropriate blasting media, nozzle types, pressures, and techniques for each job
- Load, unload, and handle parts safely using material handling equipment
- Inspect parts before and after blasting to ensure surface cleanliness, profile, and finish meet quality requirements
- Mask or protect critical surfaces and features as required
- Maintain blasting equipment, cabinets, hoses, and ventilation systems; report equipment issues or malfunctions
- Monitor and maintain blasting media quality and levels
- Follow work orders, blueprints, and process documentation
- Meet production schedules and throughput requirements in a contract manufacturing environment
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements (respirators, protective clothing, etc.)
- Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S or similar standards
- Document completed work and report any nonconformances or quality concerns
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to resolve surface preparation issues
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a sandblaster or in surface preparation (industrial or manufacturing environment preferred)
- Knowledge of abrasive blasting techniques and media types
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and safety procedures
- Basic mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills
- Ability to lift up to [X] lbs and stand for extended periods
- Experience in a contract manufacturing or job shop environment
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality systems
- Forklift or overhead crane certification
- Experience working with painted, coated, or welded components
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and abrasive materials
- Use of PPE including respirators, gloves, protective suits, and eye protection
- Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions required
- Indoor and/or outdoor blasting operations depending on job requirements
- Adhere to OSHA and company safety standards at all times
- Proper use and care of respirators and blasting PPE
- Participation in safety training, fit testing, and medical surveillance programs as required
