Metal Arts, LLC is seeking an INDUSTRIAL PAINT LEAD for the Structural Steel industry. Metal Arts is looking for leaders in our industry, who want to make an impact on a growing small business. This is an hourly position, with OT available based on workload of the shop.
The Paint lead manages the paint shop and leads first and second shift painters. Each shift will have one or two painters at any time. This position will be painting at least 80% of their hours, and the other 20% will be shop management, cleaning, and general upkeep.
This position requires a team member with exceptional detail recognition and recall. There is no room for errors, as one small issue can cause the company to lose thousands of dollars.
This position requires technology literacy, as we use tablets to track our production, including viewing drawings, tracking our time, and completing tasks within our universal software, which the entire company runs on.

o Anything that goes wrong is your responsibility, this is a leadership position, and it requires professionalism, accountability, and performance
o This is a lead position; however, you will still be actively painting and priming the majority of your day, up to 8 hours on a typical day
o You will need to operate forklifts to help load and unload the shop
o You will be cleaning and maintain the shop on a daily basis
o Ensure proper preparation of all products prior to paint
o Mix and handle coatings, and solvents safely and efficiently
o Follow coating specs and procedures per project requirements
o Ensure all parts are marked properly before painting
o Apply paint and primers and touch up as needed
o Ensure all parts are to a standard that you yourself would be happy to pay for
· Follow production plans as provided by the Shop Foreman and Production Leadership
· Manage Paint Team Members on each shift
o Ensure they are on task and painting parts in the right order, at the proper efficiency, and at the proper quality levels
o Ensure they are following all safety requirements
o Ensure they are maintaining a professional environment
o Ensure they are cleaning and maintaining the shop as directed
o Follow all cleaning practices and maintain a pristine shop
o Provide feedback to leadership to update or modify processes where you see improvement opportunities
· Utilize our software to maintain proper tracking of parts through the shop
o Maintain a strong working knowledge of the software
o Train new and existing team members on the software
o Work with senior leadership on any process improvements
o Work with leadership to ensure you always have what you need to be successful, including backup and stocked items
· Work with Quality Control to ensure the paint booth and finished products are meeting our requirements
o Ensure all products leaving the area are of high quality that surpass internal quality requirements
o Ensure the paint booth is within optimal parameters
o Learn and maintain a working knowledge of what AISC requires of our paint processes
o Inspect finished work for coverage and finish quality
o Maintain painting tools and work areas in clean, working condition
· Previous experience in industrial or structural painting preferred
· Knowledge of coating systems (epoxy, enamel, primers, etc.)
· Ability to read paint specs, blueprints and work instructions
· Ability to use a tablet and have basic computer skills
· Exceptional attention to detail and pride in workmanship
· Physically able to stand, bend, and lift for 10 hours daily
· Physically able to withstand temperature extremes as typical in Kansas
· Highly motivated and able to work w/little or no supervision
· Ability to work with a team & independently
· Ability to solve problems and deal with stressful situations professionally
· Ability to communicate directly and professionally to management and other internal customers
