DMC is currently looking for an HSE Lead to join our team on a contract basis, based in Sudbury, Ontario. In this role you will report directly to the Site HSE Manager, and be a subject matter expert for the Health, Safety & Environmental function to create and sustain a productive work culture and safe work environment to avoid and minimize HSE related concerns. These concerns include but are not limited to prevention of injury, environmental incident, and unsafe working conditions/practices.
- Supervise the implementation and understanding of HSE programs, to all levels of the project.
- Provide guidance, assistance and advice to the project workers, management and subcontractors by interpretation of Project HSE Plans, Procedures and practices in relation to client requirements and current legislation and regulations.
- Promote a balance between productivity and the safety of workers and visitors in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate, coordinate and support regulatory enforcement visits.
- Initiate Stop work and report to management if any immediately dangerous conditions or behaviors are identified. Facilitate stop work investigations and support corrective actions.
- Plan and conduct HSE inspections, job observations, audits and develop analysis reports.
- Support the scheduling of departments inspections and audits of each part of the Project.
- Participate in crew safety meetings to monitor quality, participation, and engagement.
- Identify positive recognition opportunities and advise on actions.
- Make decisions independently relative to HSE activities.
- Manage and train subordinates assigned to HSE activities.
- Assist with the orientation process of new employees.
- Facilitate Project risk assessments and procedural development.
- Coordinate the revision of HSE programs and procedures.
- Ensure the content of the Risk Register, HSE procedures and Emergency Response Plan are current.
- Assist in conducting needs analysis, development, and delivery of safety education topics.
- Ensure accurate data input into Intelex and other digital systems.
- Provide management with scheduled project safety compliance tracking reports.
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the incident notification.
- Lead and or participate in incident investigation of near misses, property damage investigation and emergency management events.
- Participate in the administration of the workers return to work, including the coordination of modified duties and accommodations.
- Assist with the procurement of specialized PPE supplies.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
- Technical experience in a similar role.
- Ontario Common Core modules (Supervisor).
- Asset to have Shaft and/or Development mining experience.
- Asset to have Intelex experience.
- Asset to have intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Experience in managing a team and developing plans.
- A recognized degree, diploma or certification in Health & Safety Management or comprehensive experience in managing Health and Safety in an organization.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
