Position Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of machinery and vehicles essential to daily operations. This includes heavy equipment such as loaders/haul trucks/skid steers, as well as light-duty vehicles, dump trucks, concrete mixer trucks, and crusher/conveyor systems used in plant operations. The ideal candidate is a versatile, safety-focused mechanic capable of handling both shop and field repairs, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, and ensuring all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This role is critical in keeping production, hauling, and site operations running smoothly.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment, light vehicles, dump trucks, mixer trucks, and plant machinery (crushers/conveyors).
- Perform preventive maintenance, fluid services, adjustments, and component replacements.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and drivetrain systems.
- Maintain accurate service records.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and light machining as needed.
- Respond to field service calls and follow all safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out.
- Communicate repair needs, timelines, and equipment status with supervisors and operators.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions, and undercarriage components.
- Proficiency with diagnosing equipment and mechanical tools.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work in various environments.- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
