Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Overview

Northstar Recycling is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic with 3–5 years of hands-on experience. This role is perfect for someone who takes pride in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy machinery while prioritizing safety and reliability.

Duties

- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment (loaders, excavators, material handlers, balers, haul trucks)

- Perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and adjustments

- Identify and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues

- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts documentation

- Collaborate with operators and supervisors to resolve equipment issues

- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements

- Assist with field service calls as needed

- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized

Requirements

- 3–5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or technician

- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components

- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools

- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment

- Valid driver’s license (CDL is a plus)

- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in varying outdoor conditions

- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred

- Experience with brands like Sennebogan, Hitachi, Liebherr, Toyota, Doosan, Komatsu, Freightliner

- Welding and fabrication skills

- Field service experience
