Summary
PRI is seeking an Estimator for Steel Fabrication & Rubber Lining to support our growing fabrication workload. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and executable cost and schedule estimates that align with shop capacity, technical requirements, and project risk. The Estimator works closely with project management, operations, engineering, and vendors to develop competitive, well-defined estimates and bids that set jobs up for success from day one.
- Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and client documentation to understand project scope
- Perform material take-offs, quantity surveys, and labor estimates
- Identify scope gaps, risks, assumptions, and constraints during the estimating phase
- Develop detailed estimates for material, labor, subcontracted services, and overhead
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Prepare clear, professional quotations and bid packages
- Develop high-level fabrication durations and sequencing assumptions
- Identify long-lead items and capacity constraints
- Support internal planning and bid feasibility assessments
- Work closely with Project Managers, shop supervisors, and engineering
- Validate production assumptions with operations personnel
- Clarify scope, pricing, and assumptions internally and, when required, with clients
- Maintain organized estimating files and historical cost data
- Track estimate accuracy to support continuous improvement
- Contribute to the ongoing development of estimating tools and processes
- 2–4 years experience in estimating, project costing, or a related role
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and technical specifications
- Strong proficiency with Excel and estimating tools
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience in steel fabrication and/or welding environments
- Familiarity with shop workflows, materials, and fabrication processes
