We are seeking a dependable, customer-focused Energy Efficiency Field Technician to support residential energy-saving programs. In this role, you will visit customer homes or properties to install smart thermostats, perform basic wiring, complete energy assessments, and educate customers on ways to reduce energy usage and improve home comfort.
- Install energy-saving products such as smart thermostats, advanced power strips, water-saving fixtures, and other eligible measures.
- Perform basic low-voltage wiring, thermostat troubleshooting, and equipment testing.
- Conduct walk-through energy assessments and identify opportunities for additional measures or program offerings.
- Conduct thorough blower door depressurization testing to quantify building envelope air leakage and pinpoint infiltration locations using smoke pencils and infrared imaging
- Perform combustion appliance zone (CAZ) testing to evaluate pressure dynamics, draft conditions, and carbon monoxide levels for all gas-fired equipment, ensuring safe operation under worst-case depressurization
- Execute complete energy audits encompassing duct blaster testing, insulation inspections, mechanical system evaluations, and lighting/appliance assessments in accordance with BPI or RESNET standards
- Document all findings with calibrated test equipment, producing detailed reports with prioritized measure packages and projected energy savings
- Communicate clearly with customers, explain services, and answer questions in a professional and friendly manner.
- Document all work performed using a mobile app or tablet (training provided).
- Follow safety protocols, tool best practices, and program QA/QC requirements.
- Manage daily schedules, drive to customer appointments, and maintain inventory in company vehicle.
- Provide excellent customer service and represent the program and company with professionalism.
- Spanish/English bilingual proficiency strongly preferred.
- Experience with thermostats, HVAC controls, or low-voltage wiring (24V wiring, thermostat replacements, etc.).
- Comfortable using tools such as drills, screwdrivers, ladders, wire strippers, etc.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in various indoor environments.
- Strong communication skills and customer-focused attitude.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in energy efficiency, HVAC, home weatherization, or field service work.
- Certifications such as BPI (BAP/BAT), EPA, or HVAC training.
