Join BBA and put your experience to work by actively contributing to various project phases as a Protection and Controls (P&C) Design Engineer. You will be involved in the design of protection and controls systems for high‑voltage/medium-voltage (HV/MV) transmission systems, distribution systems and power plants across Canada. You will also be responsible for supporting site mandates to ensure work quality and system compliance before energization. You will play a key role in project management, client coordination, and delivering high‑quality projects with the BBA team.
- Prepare protection and controls deliverables such as electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, protection logic, and control schemes.
- Preparation of protection relay setting and configuration files (GE UR relays, SEL, ABB, Siemens IED devices, etc.).
- Preparation of engineering studies and reports (protection coordination studies, short circuit analysis, power flow calculation, arc flash analysis, battery and charger calculation, transformer sizing etc.)
- Develop HMIs, network architectures, and RTU configurations
- Support in the preparation of the technical specifications, reports, and other documentation related to protection and control systems
- Assist with commissioning and testing of protection and control systems
- Review, propose optimization and seal (P. Eng.) protection and control designs
- Develop or review outage, cut-over, and testing procedures
- Interface with customer technical representatives
- Work on development of proposals including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, and estimating project cost

- University degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered with Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador or eligibility to register
- Experience with Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro P&C projects
- Experience in preparing protection system basis of design documents
- Experience in network architecture design
- Knowledge of CADD software
- Experience in preparing logic diagrams, protection philosophies, wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams and other P&C deliverables
- Experience in selecting, setting and troubleshooting protective relays (SEL, GE, Siemens)
- Experience with preparation of engineering studies and reports (protection coordination studies, short circuit analysis, power flow calculation, arc flash analysis, battery and charger calculation, transformer sizing etc.)
- A working knowledge of communication protocols (MODBUS, DNP3, IEC61850)
- Knowledge of relay testing equipment and experience in P&C commissioning
- Experience preparing project estimates
- Availability for short‑ and long‑term assignments at client sites
- English spoken and written, with the ability to draft technical documents
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Asset: Working knowledge of utility cyber security standards
- Asset: Bilingualism (French)
- Asset: Experience with configuration and programming of PLCs and DCS
- Annual base salary based on a 37.5‑hour work week
