We are seeking one or more experienced Project Engineers – Protection & Controls / Electrical to support capital and construction projects for one of our clients in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. These roles will support projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and will work closely with project managers, engineering teams, contractors, and consultants.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in protection and control systems or electrical engineering within utility or industrial environments, along with experience supporting multidisciplinary project execution.
This is a contract position with an anticipated start date of April 20, 2026, and an end date of December 31, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The estimated effort is 37.5 hours per week, working Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

- Provide technical support to Project Managers across assigned projects
- Review tender packages prepared by consultants and contractors
- Prepare tender packages and Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
- Review shop drawings and vendor submissions
- Provide technical input as a design team member and contribute to technical documentation
- Direct and supervise consultants and contractors during project execution
- Review and approve consultant reports
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) as required
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress and support site teams
- Facilitate effective communication among internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders
- Review and approve technical and commissioning documentation
- Assist with project close-out activities and asset transition to operations
- Promote continuous improvement through lessons learned and best practices
- Submit timesheets and required documentation in accordance with project requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
- Minimum of 8 years of experience since graduation
- Experience in configuration and programming of PLCs and DCS systems
- Experience with network architecture design and communication protocols
- Experience preparing and interpreting logic and wiring diagrams
- Experience in the design and/or fabrication of electrical utility equipment (e.g., switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, breakers, lighting systems)
- Experience supervising equipment installation and commissioning
- Experience selecting, setting, and troubleshooting protective relays
- Experience supporting complex, multi-discipline engineering projects
- Experience in protection and control system design, implementation, and troubleshooting, preferably within hydro generation plants, electrical transmission systems, or similar environments
- Experience managing construction contracts and preparing project estimates
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to adapt to dynamic work environments and changing project demands
- A valid Canadian driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract is required
- A criminal record check will be required
- Candidates must be fit-for-work and meet client-specific site requirements
- Work will be based in St. John’s, NL, with potential for hybrid arrangements
- Periodic travel within Newfoundland and Labrador may be required
